Kaman Kong Calls Time on Crystal Fung Friendship, Spills on Scandals and Stepping Out of TVB Comfort Zone (Yahoo HK) |
Hong Kong actress Kaman Kong has come clean about calling it quits with her once-close mate Crystal Fung, candidly admitting their friendship is basically done and dusted. In a no-holds-barred chat on a radio show, Kaman took a deep dive into her TVB years, opening up about the emotional bruises and career hiccups she’s weathered.
Earlier this year, Kaman Kong decided to part ways with TVB after repeatedly renegotiating her contract, determined to break free and chase fresh dreams. She spilled how industry titans Catherina Tsang and Virginia Lok urged her to think hard about life after 30.
That heart-to-heart was the final push for Kaman Kong to leave behind the so-called safety of TVB and go after new challenges, like taking the stage in Our Journal of Springtime, a musical she proudly auditioned for off her own bat.

Kaman Kong’s path hasn’t been all sunshine, mind. She looked back on some proper rough patches — including those grim scandals where she was branded a marriage-wrecker for allegedly meddling with Vincent Wong and Yoyo Chen’s marriage, plus accusations of being a social climber after showing up at Arnaldo Ho’s flashy yacht bash. She admitted the gossip nearly broke her, confessing she’d even thought about ending her life while filming Fist Fight.
“Thankfully, Tiffany Lau and Louis Cheung were there to support me,” she recalled, adding that the stress saw her piling on the pounds as she comfort-ate her way through the chaos.
One of the biggest aftershocks from the yacht party drama was the fallout with Crystal Fung, who had a totally different take on how they ended up on that boat. Kaman Kong was honest about it: “I’ve come to see that people have different friends at different stages of life, and our gate has ended.” She used to think friendships should last forever, but now reckons forcing it only leads to heartbreak.

As for whether she’d let her own future kids go near the industry, Kaman Kong didn’t mince her words: “It’s too complicated — no chance.” She’s learned to handle trolls, too, swapping the old defiance for a bit of a laugh instead: “I used to wear the word courage on my chest. Now I know how to separate what matters and what doesn’t.”
Kaman Kong also spilled on a string of painful relationship lessons, including an ex who cheated on her so many times she practically lost count.
“I’d forgive him once, twice, three times… until I had to ask myself, What do you think of me?” she said, cringing at how she’d have taken him back in a heartbeat if he’d shown up within a week of breaking up. Looking back, she reckons she’d happily give her younger self a good slap.
And there was that memorable split with another boyfriend who couldn’t stand her short hairstyle in a drama. Asked what she’d do if someone like that turned up again, Kaman didn’t hold back: “Bye bye! It might sound bitchy, but I’m not sorry. Break up right there and then.”
These days, she’s channelling that fearless energy into new creative adventures. She put her hand up for the musical gig, took a month of vocal lessons just to give it a proper go, and says she’s rediscovering the spark she had when she first stepped into showbiz. “There are still so many things I want to try,” she beamed.
