Nene Zheng Naixin Slammed for “Dirty Toilet” Comments |
A recent livestream interview featuring Thai-Chinese singer and actress Zheng Naixin, also known as Nene Pornnappan, has gone viral after a controversial comment regarding public toilets in China.
The interview became a trending topic when the former BonBon Girls 303 member was asked about cultural perceptions of Chinese toilets.
The host boldly stated, “Thai people think Chinese toilets are dirty,” prompting Nene to respond with a giggle and a question, “Didn’t you experience that when you went to Harbin?”
While the host later tried to clarify by saying most toilets in shopping malls are actually very clean, Nene appeared unconvinced. Her facial expressions shifted from amusement to disbelief as she tried to make sense of the topic.
“I don’t understand,” she said.
“I’ve tried my best to understand, but I still don’t get why some people don’t flush after using the toilet. We’re all women, so why not press the flush button?”

The host attempted to explain that many toilets in China use automatic sensors, and in some cases, the mechanism may be broken. Nene responded sharply, “Then there are too many broken ones.”
Soon after the clip spread online, public discussion flared up. While some netizens agreed with her frustration, especially those who had encountered similar hygiene issues in public restrooms, others felt she had gone too far.
Critics accused Nene of generalising and tarnishing China’s image, especially given her history of building her career there.
Some Chinese netizens even criticised her harshly using a proverb about ingratitude: “Eating while holding the bowl, and cursing your mother when putting it down.”
The controversy has reopened conversations about Nene’s loyalty to China.
Although she started her Chinese career in 2020 via the show CHUANG 2020 and expressed deep love for China during that time, her recent actions and comments have raised eyebrows.
Fans recalled previous scandals, including her decision to unfollow Thai actor Bright after he was accused of anti-China sentiment, only to later like posts from his alternate account.
She blamed a “hacked account” at the time and denied being in a relationship.
However, in 2024, Nene confirmed she was dating Bright — the same actor previously linked to controversies involving Hong Kong, Taiwan, and offensive remarks about Chinese people.

This revelation intensified backlash, with many fans calling her hypocritical. Others felt disillusioned by her shifting behaviour, especially since she now primarily works in Thailand after distancing herself from Chinese media.
Despite the criticism, some fans defended Nene, saying her comments reflected genuine cultural confusion rather than intentional disrespect. Yet the debate continues, with heated exchanges filling online platforms.
As of now, the video remains one of the top-searched topics in China, reflecting how a single offhand remark can stir strong national sentiment.
