The 78th Cannes Film Festival is set to welcome a historic entry from Thailand this year. The acclaimed Thai series Cranium has officially been selected for screening at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Girls’ Love (GL) television series to ever achieve such recognition at the prestigious international event.
Cranium, a mystery drama with a slow-burning romantic narrative between two female leads, stars Freen Sarocha Chankimha and Becky Armstrong—two actresses widely celebrated in Thailand and internationally for their previous work in LGBTQ+ storytelling.

The series follows Bussaya and Phinya, two biological anthropologists and former university colleagues who reunite after a catastrophic incident forces them to work together.
When a mysterious human skull is discovered during their investigation, the story deepens not only in its forensic intrigue but also in the emotional ties between the women, gradually shifting from professional tension to affection.
The Cannes Film Festival, now in its 78th year, will take place from May 13 to 24, 2025, at the iconic Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, France.

Established in 1946, the annual festival remains one of the most influential film platforms in the world, known for showcasing new works of all genres and serving as a vital launchpad for critical and commercial success.
The event attracts producers, distributors, and critics from across the globe, making it a major opportunity for exposure on an international scale.
Thailand has become increasingly visible at Cannes in recent years. In 2023, the Boys’ Love film Mansuang broke ground by being the first of its genre to be featured at the festival. In 2024, the sci-fi drama Uranus 2324 also made its Cannes debut, with Freen and Becky walking the red carpet in attendance.
This year, with Cranium, the nation continues its tradition of showcasing diverse narratives that reflect its evolving entertainment industry and embrace of inclusive storytelling.
The selection of Cranium has sparked widespread excitement among fans of Freen and Becky, particularly within the GL community, who see the recognition as a meaningful step forward for representation on one of cinema’s grandest stages.
The production team behind Cranium has yet to confirm if the cast will attend the festival this May, but anticipation is building both locally and internationally.
As the countdown to Cannes begins, Cranium stands as a proud symbol of Thai storytelling, LGBTQ+ representation, and the growing global reach of Southeast Asian series.
