Mew Suppasit Shares Personal Experience with Bullying (Komchadluek)

Painful but powerful — that's how Mew Suppasit described his experience of being bullied, as he bravely shared his story during an exclusive event inspired by the gripping drama series Homeroom 29: The Hostage.

The event, titled "Lessons Beyond the Classroom: Homeroom 29: The Hostage", was recently held at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Communication Arts.

Organised by Juvenile Co., Ltd. and TrueID in collaboration with the faculty, the special talk aimed to spark real conversations around the impact of bullying — both in fiction and in real life.

Joining Mew Suppasit on stage were director Wirada Kuhawan, actors Jane Kuljiranut Warrakorn and JJ Rachapol Pornpinit, alongside academic Chanetty Tinnam and clinical psychologist Paphawadee Saengkrajang

The warm yet emotional session was expertly hosted by Praew Hassaya Isariyasereekul.

The talk was an extension of Homeroom 29, a drama that doesn't shy away from exposing the devastating effects of bullying, while also weaving a thrilling mystery around the murder of character Renita.

Selected fans who answered what they learned from the series, as well as Chulalongkorn students, were invited to join an intimate two-hour discussion packed with honest, eye-opening moments.

Mew, one of the series' stars, didn't hold back when reflecting on his own painful experiences, explaining how they informed his portrayal.

"One big reason I took on this series was because I’ve lived through bullying myself," he admitted.

"When I read the script, there was one word that just hit me — 'witch hunt'. It’s a phrase we use in cyberbullying now, but it’s deeply tied to history. Back then, during times of plague or crisis, people didn’t know what was going on, so they found scapegoats. It’s exactly the same today online."

He described how victims, much like his character Rain in the series, are often pushed into corners they can't escape from, accused without evidence, and left to carry a weight they don’t deserve.

"In cyberbullying today, if someone speaks up for themselves, people just say, ‘Oh, you're making excuses’ or ‘Why not just admit you’re wrong?’ And if you apologise under pressure, it’s twisted as proof you were guilty all along," Mew Suppasit said.

"The mental scars from just one comment can be as deep as the torture people faced during actual witch hunts."

Actor JJ Rachapol echoed those sentiments, urging everyone to think before acting online.

"Sometimes we’re only thinking about our own entertainment," JJ said.

"We forget that even a small laugh react or a throwaway comment can really wound someone. We say we want the world to be kinder to us, but maybe we should start by being kinder ourselves."

Meanwhile, Jane Kuljiranut, who plays Renita, offered a powerful reflection from her own life:

"If you’re about to say something hurtful, try saying it to yourself first. If it stings even a little, imagine how much worse it could hurt someone else," she said.

"What feels small to you could end up being a massive wound for someone else."

The atmosphere at the event was a unique mix of warmth, honesty, and a few tears.

Participants shared real-life experiences, finding comfort in the fact that they were not alone.

It wasn’t just about highlighting the problem — it was about planting seeds of change, encouraging everyone to think twice before they speak, type, or judge.

At the heart of it all was one simple but urgent message:

Bullying, whether online or in person, is never harmless. Words carry weight — and they can either heal or hurt more than we realise.
