| Will There Be a Zhan Zhao Adventures Season 2? Everything We Know After the Finale. (Credits: Upmedia) |
The finale of Zhan Zhao Adventures (雨霖铃) has landed on Disney+, but instead of saying goodbye, viewers seem more interested in asking one question: when is Season 2? After spending two consecutive weeks inside Disney+’s top three rankings and surpassing 600 million views across platforms, the wuxia drama starring Yang Yang, Zhang Ruonan, and Fang Yilun wrapped up with the kind of ending that practically invites sequel discussions before the closing credits have even finished rolling.
The biggest talking point came during the drama’s final showdown. Yang Yang's legendary swordsman Zhan Zhao marched into Chongxiao Tower wearing a striking red official robe to confront Prince Xiangyang once and for all.
The battle delivered exactly what wuxia fans signed up for: intense action, emotional sacrifice and enough injuries to make viewers wonder whether the costume department had a special budget dedicated entirely to fake blood.
Even after suffering devastating wounds, Zhan Zhao refused to back down. The image of him standing alone in the snow, sword planted firmly into the ground as he fought to remain upright, instantly spread across social media.
Many viewers described the scene as one of the most visually memorable moments of the year, while others joked that Yang Yang somehow managed to look heroic even when his character was barely standing.
Reflecting on the emotional sequence, Yang Yang admitted the scene was filmed close to the end of production, making it particularly difficult to leave behind. The actor revealed that he had grown deeply attached to Zhan Zhao and felt genuine relief only after the character finally completed his mission.

According to Yang Yang, the red costume carried special meaning throughout the final battle. He explained that the colour symbolised righteousness and authority, adding that wearing it felt like accompanying Zhan Zhao through the final chapter of his long journey.
Rather than portraying a flawless hero, Yang Yang said he intentionally wanted Zhan Zhao to feel human. In his view, Zhan Zhao's greatest strength is not perfection but resilience.
The actor described him as someone who silently carries emotional burdens while continuing to do what is right. "I'd rather create a 99-point hero than a perfect one," Yang Yang explained, suggesting that the missing point represents the character's humanity.
That humanity became a defining feature of the series. Unlike many traditional wuxia heroes who emerge from every fight looking suspiciously untouched, Zhan Zhao spent much of the drama battered, exhausted and emotionally tested.
Yang Yang laughed while recalling how frequently the production team covered him in fake blood during filming, joking that supplies occasionally seemed in danger of running out altogether.
The actor also revealed one key difference between himself and his on-screen counterpart. While both share a strong sense of justice, YangYang admitted he lacks Zhan Zhao's patience. In fact, he jokingly claimed there is one thing he absolutely cannot tolerate: being hungry.
His reasoning was refreshingly straightforward. According to Yang, nobody can work properly on an empty stomach, which is probably one life lesson viewers can apply more easily than sword fighting.
The demanding action sequences even followed him home. Yang Yang revealed that throughout filming he repeatedly dreamed about battles, horse riding, rescue missions and being chased by enemies.
The dreams became so frequent that he sometimes felt trapped in an endless wuxia loop. Only after filming wrapped did he finally realise that his adventure alongside Zhan Zhao had truly come to an end.
Meanwhile, Fang Yilun's portrayal of Bai Yutang delivered some of the finale's most emotional moments. As Zhan Zhao's closest ally and occasional rival, Bai Yutang followed him into Chongxiao Tower without hesitation.

However, an unexpected trap left his fate hanging in the balance, creating one of the most heartbreaking moments of the entire series. Speaking about his co-star, Fang Yilun had nothing but praise for Yang Yang.
He highlighted the actor's impressive action choreography, strong screen presence and ability to bring power and elegance to every fight sequence. Off camera, Fang Yilun said Yang Yang shares many qualities with Zhan Zhao himself, describing him as someone who quietly helps others without seeking recognition or praise.
Although Zhan Zhao Adventures received a more mixed critical reception than some viewers expected, industry reports suggest the drama still achieved strong commercial results.
Advertising partnerships and sponsorship agreements reportedly helped recover the production's substantial budget during its broadcast run, proving that audience interest remained strong throughout the series.
The finale became even more intriguing when Disney+ released an additional epilogue scene. In the extra footage, Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang return to the capital following the climactic battle.
Despite their injuries, the pair quickly resume their familiar bickering and playful exchanges. Fans of the famous "Cat and Mouse" partnership immediately embraced the scene, with many arguing that the duo's chemistry remained one of the drama's strongest assets from beginning to end.
However, it was the final mission that truly ignited Zhan Zhao Adventures Season 2 speculation. Before the story concludes, Zhan Zhao accepts a new assignment involving Western Xia, opening an entirely new chapter that remains unexplored. Rather than feeling like a definitive ending, many viewers felt the finale resembled the first page of another adventure.
That theory has only gained momentum because Youku has built a reputation for developing follow-up projects and expanding successful drama universes.

Adding further fuel to the discussion is the fact that Yang Yang's fantasy drama The Immortal Ascension is already preparing for its own continuation, leading some fans to wonder whether Zhan Zhao Adventures could receive similar treatment.
The writers essentially handed fans a giant "To Be Continued" sign without officially writing the words on screen. Meanwhile, supporters of the Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang partnership have spent days celebrating the duo's final interactions and demanding more adventures together.
If Zhan Zhao Adventures does return for a second season, the finale has already provided a clear direction. With Zhan Zhao accepting a new assignment in Western Xia, the story could expand beyond the political struggles seen in Season 1 and introduce a fresh network of rivals, allies and regional conflicts.
The epilogue also strongly suggests that Bai Yutang would continue travelling alongside Zhan Zhao, allowing the fan-favourite "Cat and Mouse" partnership to remain at the centre of the narrative. Viewers are also speculating that unresolved mysteries surrounding the aftermath of Prince Xiangyang’s downfall could resurface, while new enemies may attempt to fill the power vacuum left behind.
Given Season 1’s focus on loyalty, justice and personal sacrifice, a potential Season 2 would likely push Zhan Zhao into even greater challenges, forcing him to balance his duty to the court with increasingly complicated threats beyond the capital. Whether that mission becomes another standalone adventure or the beginning of a larger saga remains the biggest question left by the finale.
For now, Disney+, Youku and the production team have remained silent regarding a second season. Yet the combination of strong viewership, an unresolved mission, a beloved central duo and a fanbase that refuses to stop discussing the finale means speculation is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
The real question now is whether that final Western Xia mission was simply a farewell tease or the first clue that Zhan Zhao Adventures is preparing to ride again. Did the ending feel complete, or are you already waiting for Zhan Zhao Adventures Season 2?
