Vic Chou’s Wife Reen Yu Hongyuan Explains Entertainment Comeback After Years Away: “I Want My Own Identity Too”

Taiwanese actress Reen Yu Hongyuan is back in the spotlight after revealing the real reason behind her long-awaited return to the entertainment industry. After spending years focusing on family life and raising her daughter with husband Vic Chou, the actress says the decision was not driven by fame, attention or unfinished business. Instead, it came from a much simpler place: wanting to grow as a person again and reclaim a part of herself that had been put on hold for years.

Speaking candidly during a recent media interview in Taiwan, Yu Hongyuan reflected on the years she spent away from cameras following her marriage to Vic Chou in 2015. After becoming a mother, she largely stepped back from acting and devoted herself to raising their daughter.

Finding suitable childcare proved difficult, and in the end she chose to take on the responsibility herself. What followed was nearly a decade centred around school schedules, family routines and making sure her child had a stable upbringing.

Now that her daughter is already in primary school, Yu Hongyuan says she finally feels there is room to pursue goals beyond motherhood.

She admitted that after years of being known mainly as a wife and mother, she wanted to challenge herself professionally once again. Her comments struck a chord with many people, particularly women who understand the balancing act between family responsibilities and personal ambitions.

The actress also shared an interesting glimpse into life at home. Unlike many modern households, she revealed that there is very little television and almost no digital devices around their daughter.

Instead, books play a much bigger role in daily life. It is a parenting approach that feels increasingly rare in an age where screens seem to appear before breakfast and disappear long after bedtime.

One topic that inevitably surfaced was whether she and Vic Chou ever considered having a second child. Yu Hongyuan answered with surprising honesty, admitting she abandoned the idea when her daughter was around three years old.

She described herself as someone who likes things done properly and often prefers handling tasks personally. In her view, having another child would mean restarting an entire chapter of life that she had only recently emerged from. For her, the decision was less about numbers and more about maintaining balance.

She also addressed previous comments made by Vic Chou, who once described their daughter as a highly sensitive child. Yu Hongyuan offered a slightly different perspective.

She believes their daughter was simply very attached to her mother because she had been raised primarily by her. As she has grown older, that dependence has naturally eased, with the child becoming increasingly confident and independent.

Perhaps the most touching moment from the interview came when she spoke about discussing her comeback with her daughter beforehand.

According to Yu Hongyuan, her daughter’s biggest concern was not the work itself but whether she would still get to see and hug her mother every day.

Before one work engagement, her daughter reportedly encouraged her by saying, “Mum, I hope you work hard. Just do your best.” It was the sort of simple advice that many adults spend years trying to learn.

The interview also revived curiosity surrounding her marriage to Vic Chou, one of Taiwan’s most recognisable actors. Despite being married for more than a decade, the couple have never held a formal wedding celebration.

While fans have often imagined a grand ceremony worthy of a television drama finale, Yu Hongyuan confessed she never had much interest in organising one. The thought of planning schedules, hosting guests and greeting everyone personally sounded exhausting rather than romantic.

In what may be one of the least dramatic celebrity marriage stories ever told, she simply preferred signing the paperwork and getting on with life.

According to the actress, Vic Chou fully respected her decision and even asked over the years whether she might regret skipping a wedding ceremony. Her answer has remained unchanged.

More than eleven years later, she still feels completely comfortable with that choice, proving that not every happy marriage requires a ballroom, hundreds of guests or a five-tier cake nobody actually finishes.

The couple have also faced challenges together, including an ongoing legal dispute linked to a major financial case involving an insurance agent.

While the matter remains unresolved, Yu Hongyuan said the experience taught her valuable lessons about trust and reality. What stood out, however, was her insistence that she and Vic Chou rarely argue.

Rather than turning difficult situations into household drama, they focus on solving problems together. It may not be the most exciting answer for gossip lovers, but it is probably the reason their relationship has lasted so long.

Online reactions have been varied but largely positive. Many fans praised Yu Hongyuan for speaking openly about wanting an identity beyond motherhood, arguing that her comments reflect the experiences of countless women navigating family life and career ambitions.

Others admired her honesty about choosing not to have a second child and refusing to stage a wedding simply because society expected one.

Some netizens joked that skipping wedding planning might actually be the secret to a stress-free marriage, while others said her practical outlook felt refreshingly normal in an industry often filled with carefully polished celebrity narratives.

For many observers, the biggest takeaway is not that Reen Yu Hongyuan is making a comeback, but why she is making one. Her story is less about returning to showbiz and more about personal growth, independence and finding space for new ambitions after years devoted to family.

As discussions continue across social media, fans are now eager to see what projects she chooses next. Do you agree with her decision to return to entertainment after focusing on family for so many years, and what are your thoughts on her views about marriage, motherhood and personal identity?
