If TVB's 2026 drama calendar were a race for screen time, Kelly Cheung and Him Law would already be leading the pack. The broadcaster’s Mid-Year Program Presentation confirmed a packed slate of flagship productions including War of the Roses, Imitation of Life, Under the Table, The Model Lawyers, Flight Diaries II, The Big Boss Cop, This City Never Sleeps and Exorcism Express. Among the many familiar faces returning to viewers' screens, it was Kelly Cheung and Him Law who stood out, each securing leading roles in three major dramas and effectively becoming TVB’s unofficial drama queen and drama king for the upcoming season.

For TVB viewers who have often complained in recent years about shorter production schedules and fewer large-scale dramas, the latest presentation felt like a signal that the station is once again thinking bigger.

The line-up features courtroom battles, police stories, supernatural adventures and family dramas, giving audiences a little bit of everything while placing some of the network’s most recognisable stars front and centre.

Him Law, who headlines Imitation of Life, The Big Boss Cop and Under the Table, appeared grateful rather than overwhelmed by his busy workload. While some actors might quietly dream of a holiday after filming three dramas, Him made it clear he sees every project as an opportunity worth embracing.

He noted that TVB's production volume appears to have recovered compared with previous years and stressed that he would never take acting opportunities for granted, even if it meant sacrificing personal time.

The actor also shared a glimpse into family life with wife Tavia Yeung, who is preparing for her own television comeback. With both parents busy, Him joked that he would soon be handling multiple jobs at home, becoming father, mother and tutor all at once.

According to him, the household runs almost like a corporate office, with Tavia acting as the boss who delegates responsibilities through a family group chat involving both grandmothers and their helper.

It sounded less like a family conversation and more like a board meeting, though Him seemed perfectly happy to follow instructions.

Meanwhile, Kelly Cheung is enjoying a similarly packed schedule. Her three upcoming dramas place her among TVB’s most visible female stars heading into 2026, strengthening her position as one of the network’s most reliable leading ladies.

Interestingly, two of those projects reunite her with veteran actress Alice Chan, creating a partnership viewers will likely become very familiar with over the coming months.

In The Model Lawyers, both actresses play lawyers locked in professional rivalry. Kelly revealed that the drama focuses heavily on legal battles rather than romance, joking that their characters will be competing for clients rather than competing for men.

In a television landscape where love triangles often appear before audiences have even learned the characters' names, the approach may come as a refreshing change.

Kelly also expressed excitement about sharing scenes with veteran actor Gallen Lo, who plays her mentor in the series.

For an actress who continues to build her portfolio with increasingly complex roles, the chance to learn from one of Hong Kong television’s most respected performers appears to be something she values greatly.

Away from work, Kelly was naturally asked about her personal life. Recently single, she responded with characteristic calm, saying that friends who celebrated her birthday seemed far more concerned about her future relationships than she was.

Rather than rushing into anything, she said she prefers to let life take its course naturally. In other words, while fans are busy playing matchmaker, Kelly seems perfectly content focusing on scripts instead.

Elsewhere, Moses Chan finds himself in a rather unusual position this year. The award-winning actor has only one drama, War of the Roses, scheduled for release. Rather than viewing it as a downgrade, Moses laughed off the situation and suggested that quality matters more than quantity.

It was a typically confident response from a performer who has spent years proving he can command attention even without appearing in multiple productions annually.

Moses also dismissed speculation that he could be preparing to leave TVB following discussions surrounding his placement in the broadcaster’s annual report.

The rumours have circulated for months, but the actor showed little interest in fuelling them. In War of the Roses, he takes on the role of an entertainment tycoon and hinted that viewers will see a world where glamour and complexity often go hand in hand.

Another familiar face making headlines was Owen Cheung, who addressed rumours suggesting he had been quietly sidelined. Owen rejected those claims and explained that he had simply been spending time training for Hyrox events alongside friends Brian Chu and Kalok Chow

Rather than disappearing, he insisted he had been busy preparing for future projects, including Imitation of Life, where he stars alongside Anita Yuen.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Ma, currently touring mainland China with Edwin Siu and Raymond Cho, found himself facing amusing questions about whether he was preparing for a music career.

Kenneth quickly played down the idea, joking that he was merely following along behind his more musically experienced friends. The actor admitted he still has plenty of room to improve as a singer and appeared happy to leave the spotlight in that department to others.

The announcement quickly sparked discussion across social media. Many fans celebrated Kelly Cheung's rise, arguing that her steady performances over recent years have earned her a bigger presence in TVB's drama schedule.

Others pointed to Him Law's workload as evidence that the network continues to place enormous trust in him as a leading man. Some viewers were particularly excited about The Model Lawyers, praising the prospect of a drama driven more by legal battles than romance.

Not everyone focused on the same stars, however. A sizeable number of netizens expressed curiosity about Moses Chan having only one drama, while others welcomed the return of veteran performers such as Gallen Lo and Anita Yuen

Discussions also emerged around whether TVB's expanded production slate signals a stronger creative period ahead after several years of industry uncertainty.

With courtroom showdowns, police investigations, family conflicts and supernatural adventures all on the horizon, TVB's 2026 line-up is shaping up to be one of its most ambitious in recent memory.

The biggest question now is whether Kelly Cheung and Him Law can turn their impressive quantity of projects into standout performances that dominate ratings and conversation alike. Which drama are you most looking forward to, and do you think TVB has chosen the right king and queen of its upcoming season?
