Tencent might already be preparing the next major historical drama takeover, because reports claiming “Mo Li” will premiere in June 2026 are spreading fast across Chinese entertainment circles. And honestly, the timing feels almost too perfect to ignore.

Last year, Bai Lu’s drama “Feud” arrived on 5 June 2025 and quickly became one of the season’s most talked-about releases. Now fans are joking that Tencent apparently looked at the calendar and thought, “well, if it worked once, why not do it again?

The upcoming period C-drama stars Bai Lu alongside Cheng Lei, pairing two actors who already carry serious buzz individually. Put them in a palace revenge romance together and suddenly half the internet starts acting like release day is a national event.

While Tencent has yet to officially confirm the exact premiere date, the sudden wave of new still cuts and promotional materials circulating online has convinced many viewers that the platform is entering the final preparation stage before launch.

Industry watchers are also pointing out that Tencent rarely begins pushing promotional images this aggressively unless a drama is approaching release. So although the “coming in June” reports remain unofficial for now, fans are already treating it like a countdown.

Chinese drama viewers know the pattern too well at this point. First come the leaked posters, then the trailer rumours, then suddenly everyone is cancelling plans because a 40-episode palace drama has consumed their life schedule.

Mo Li Eyes June Launch as Bai Lu Prepares Return to Historical Drama Spotlight

Adapted from the popular web novel “Sheng Shi Di Fei” by Feng Qing, “Mo Li” mixes political intrigue, revenge, romance and royal power struggles into one very dramatic package. The story follows Ye Li, the eldest daughter of a respected family, who enters a political marriage with the supposedly crippled prince Mo Xiu Yao

On the very same day, her sister Ye Ying marries Prince Mo Jing Li, setting the stage for an absolute storm of palace tension before the honeymoon decorations have probably even been cleaned up.

But behind Ye Li’s calm image sits a secret revenge mission linked to the destruction of her clan. Unfortunately for her, her husband is equally suspicious and turns out to have revenge plans of his own.

Nothing says romance quite like two people silently investigating each other while plotting separate acts of vengeance inside the imperial palace.

As the story develops, the distrust between Ye Li and Mo Xiu Yao slowly transforms into a powerful alliance.

Together, they face political conspiracies, family betrayals and the growing ambitions of Prince Mo Jing Li, who reportedly begins scheming to seize the imperial throne for himself. It is exactly the kind of large-scale royal chaos that historical C-drama audiences completely devour every summer.

Bai Lu Could Rule Another Summer as Tencent Plans June Premiere for Mo Li

For many viewers, the biggest attraction remains the pairing of Bai Lu and Cheng Lei. Bai Lu has spent the past few years becoming one of the most reliable names in costume dramas, with fans praising her ability to balance emotional intensity, wit and strong screen presence.

Meanwhile, Ryan Cheng Lei gained even more attention following his breakout momentum after “Legend of the Female General” alongside Zhou Ye in 2025. His rise has been fast enough that many viewers now see him as one of the stronger younger male leads currently entering mainstream historical drama territory.

Online reactions to the rumoured premiere have been split between excitement and cautious optimism. Supporters believe the drama already has all the ingredients needed for a summer hit: a bestselling source novel, high-profile leads, palace politics, revenge arcs and enough emotional tension to fuel endless fan edits online.

Some fans are already predicting “career peak chemistry” between Bai Lu and Cheng Lei despite the drama not even airing yet.

Others, meanwhile, are trying not to get too carried away after several major costume dramas in recent years struggled under the weight of overhype. A few cnetz joked that historical romance fans have become “professional survivors” after waiting years for certain dramas only to receive surprise schedule delays at the last second. Still, even sceptical viewers admit the visuals released so far look polished, cinematic and expensive in the very Tencent way possible.

The supporting cast has also sparked discussion, with Cai Zhengjie playing Mo Jing Li, alongside Lin Muran, Yang Shuyi, and Feng Xueya in key roles.

Directed by Lam Yuk Fan, the drama is expected to air on Tencent Video and WeTV with English subtitles for international audiences, while Disney+ is also reportedly attached for broader streaming distribution.

What makes the timing especially interesting is how aggressively Tencent appears to be building its summer 2026 line-up.

Historical dramas remain one of the strongest traffic generators in Chinese streaming entertainment, and platforms know exactly how much online discussion a high-profile costume romance can create.

Whether viewers tune in for palace politics, revenge plots, romance, or simply to watch beautiful people stare dramatically at each other under lantern lighting for 40 episodes straight, the formula clearly still works.

Now fans are simply waiting for Tencent to stop pretending this is still a mystery and officially announce the premiere date already. If the June rumours turn out to be true, summer C-drama season may once again belong to Bai Lu

And honestly, C-drama land becoming chaotic every time she appears on screen is starting to feel less like coincidence and more like tradition. So, are you seated for Mo Li, or are you waiting for the trailer first before joining the hype train?
