The twist is funny, slightly absurd, unexpectedly charming, and made even better by the fact that the man is played by none other than David Tennant.
For a series built around friendship, ageing, relationships and the occasional emotional crisis disguised as a holiday, the arrival of Gianpiero feels like a deliberate signal that Anne's journey is far from over. Then, in classic television fashion, an actual Gianpiero suddenly appears. It is the sort of coincidence that would normally feel ridiculous, but The Four Seasons leans into the joke and somehow makes it work.
