The Weibo Night Awards 2025 lit up China’s entertainment scene once again, proving why the annual event remains one of the most closely watched nights on the industry calendar. From film and drama to music and variety shows, this year’s ceremony wasn’t just about trophies, but about influence, longevity, and who truly dominates public conversation online. And right at the centre of it all, Xiao Zhan and Yang Mi reminded everyone why their names still sit at the very top.

The biggest headline of the night came when Xiao Zhan and Yang Mi were announced as Weibo King and Queen for the third time. The repeat win felt less like a surprise and more like a confirmation of their unmatched reach, whether through dramas, films, endorsements, or sheer social media presence.

For many fans, it was a “rightful return” moment, while others saw it as proof that sustained popularity in China’s fast-moving entertainment world is no small feat.

Beyond the King and Queen titles, the awards highlighted a wide spectrum of influence across generations. Legendary director Zhang Yimou received the Weibo International Influential Director honour, recognising his lasting impact not just within China, but globally.

His award stood as a reminder that while trends shift, true cinematic legacy continues to carry weight year after year.

Veteran actors including Huang Bo, Huang Xiaoming, Kara Wai, Li Bingbing, Shen Teng, Wu Jing, and Yao Chen were celebrated as Actors of the Era. This recognition focused on long-term contribution rather than viral moments, acknowledging careers that have shaped Chinese cinema and storytelling over decades.

In the music and international influence categories, Li Yuchun stood out as Weibo International Influential Musician, while Shu Qi received the title of Weibo International Influential Actress, bridging domestic success with global recognition.

Their wins reflected Weibo’s growing emphasis on cross-border impact and cultural reach.

Several acting honours focused on reputation and role modelling. Song Jia, Xiao Zhan, and Xin Zhilei were named Weibo Annual Role Model Actors, highlighting not only performance quality but also public image and professionalism.

Lei Jiayin and Yang Zi earned the Weibo Annual Reputable Actor titles, praised for consistent performances that resonated strongly with audiences throughout the year. Meanwhile, Yao Chen and Yang Mi were honoured again as Weibo Annual Glory Actors, reinforcing their standing as enduring pillars of the industry.

The awards also leaned heavily into emerging and mid-career stars.

Categories such as Most Anticipated Actor of the Year recognised names like Liu Xiening, Wang Yinglu, Yao Anna, Zhang Kangle, and Zhou Keyu, while Breakthrough Actor awards spotlighted Chen Haoyu, Cheng Xiao, Zhu Xudan, Zhang Yifan, and Zhang Yuxi.

These titles reflected rising buzz and growing fanbases rather than long-established fame.

Popularity-driven awards spanned across acting, music, and performance. From popular groups like TOP and Ten Diligent Ones to singers including Liu Yu, Ouyang Nana, Zhang Hao, and Zhou Zhennan, the results showed how fandom power continues to shape Weibo’s annual narrative.

Expressive and performance-based music honours went to artists such as Ayunga, Duan Yien, Mickey Guyton, Wang Linkai, and Zhang Yuan, highlighting stylistic individuality alongside popularity.

Drama and film categories painted a picture of what truly captured public attention in 2025.

Best Drama titles went to works including Shine on Me, This Thriving Land, Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 3: To Changan, and Legend of Zang Hai, while Best Film honours were shared by Zootopia 2, Dead to Rights, Ne Zha 2, and Detective Chinatown 1900.

The Lunar New Year anticipation category also drew strong interest, with titles like Blades of the Guardians and Pegasus 3 generating early hype.

Variety shows and live performances were not left behind, with programmes such as Keep Running Season 13, Singer 2025, and The King of Stand-up Comedy 2 receiving top honours.

Major cultural events including the Anaya Shrimp Music Festival and Wuzhen Theatre Festival were also recognised, reinforcing Weibo’s broad definition of entertainment influence beyond screens alone.

As expected, fan and netizen reactions were anything but quiet. Supporters of Xiao Zhan and Yang Mi flooded comment sections celebrating the King and Queen repeat, calling it a “no debate” result.

Some netizens praised the balance between veteran recognition and newcomer spotlighting, while others sparked heated discussions over whether popularity-based awards should outweigh critical acclaim. Still, that mix of applause, debate, and fandom rivalry is exactly what keeps the Weibo Awards relevant year after year.

Its blend of legacy figures, rising stars, and internet-driven influence, Weibo Awards 2025 once again reflected the current heartbeat of Chinese entertainment. Now the real question is, which wins did you agree with, and which ones had you shaking your head?
