J-Pop idol group my fav have officially announced that they will disband in March 2026. The news marks another full stop in the long, complicated journey that began with infamous Last Idol, rebooted with fresh hopes, and ultimately found its final identity as my fav.

The announcement came via the group’s official channels on 6 January, with management explaining that the decision followed repeated discussions between members and staff.

At the heart of it, they said, was respect for each member’s future goals and desire to move on to the next stage of their lives.

my fav’s story is anything but simple. The group traces its roots back to Last Idol, the idol project born from a televised music competition that once gathered dozens of members under the “Last Idol Family” banner.

After the original group ended activities in May 2022, the project was rebooted from scratch in 2023 with a brand-new producer and a much smaller line-up.

The group officially restarted in September 2023 as SHINSEI LAST IDOL, before announcing a full rebrand to my fav in June 2024.

Two new members joined in August 2024, forming the final six-member line-up that fans know today. Despite the fresh name and renewed push, the group has now confirmed that this chapter will close less than two years later.

In their statement, management apologised for the sudden nature of the announcement and stressed that the decision was made carefully.

They explained that the group chose to end activities at this timing in order to respect each member’s personal ambitions and readiness to move forward.

Fans were also thanked directly, with the message highlighting that ongoing support had been a major source of strength throughout the group’s activities.

The statement ended by asking for continued encouragement for each member individually after disbandment.

Several members shared personal messages shortly after the news broke.

Ruka apologised for the shock and promised to give everything until the final day, hoping to return even a fraction of the support fans have shown.

Another member echoed those feelings, saying she wants the remaining time to be filled with smiles, gratitude, and meaningful memories.

Rather than sadness, the tone across the messages focused on appreciation and making the final months count.

Online reactions in Japan have been mixed but largely understanding. Long-time Last Idol followers expressed fatigue at seeing yet another ending, while others praised the members for choosing honesty over dragging things out.

STU48 fans, in particular, reacted emotionally due to the presence of former members in the group.

Some voiced disappointment that the project couldn’t stabilise, while others said they are simply glad to have supported the members during this phase of their careers.

Overall, the dominant mood seems to be quiet acceptance rather than outrage.

J-Pop Idol Group my fav Confirm Disbandment

While no concrete post-disbandment plans have been announced yet, the statement hints that individual paths will be shared later. Based on industry patterns, fans are speculating about possible solo idol work, acting, variety appearances, or even a step away from entertainment altogether.

With several scheduled events and live appearances still planned before March, supporters will have multiple chances to see the group one last time and properly say goodbye. For many fans, this chapter will be remembered not for its ending, but for the effort to start again.

Now it’s over to you.
