Japanese pop icon Ayumi Hamasaki has spoken out after a surprise on-stage fall during her year-end live concert in Tokyo, reassuring fans that she is doing well and taking full responsibility for the incident.

The 47-year-old J-pop singer addressed the matter via her Instagram Stories on 4 January 2026, referring specifically to her 30 December performance at the “ayumi hamasaki COUNTDOWN LIVE 2025–2026 We are ayu -ep.Seichi-”, held at Yoyogi National Gymnasium First Gymnasium.

According to Ayumi Hamasaki, the incident occurred when she unexpectedly fell beneath part of the stage mechanism during the live show.

With fans quick to notice and express concern, she felt it was important to personally clarify what happened.

She explained that while performers and staff always prioritise safety and rehearse extensively within tight schedules, this particular stage setup involved multiple moving platforms.

A miscommunication within the team, including herself, led to the unexpected accident.

Ayumi Hamasaki also offered a direct apology to audience members who had a clear view of the incident, as well as those who may have been startled by the sound of the fall. 

She acknowledged the worry it caused and expressed sincere regret for the concern.

Despite the scare, the singer reassured fans that she remained in good spirits after completing two full days of performances at Yoyogi. 

In a characteristically candid note, she shared that the cold currently circulating within her family felt far more exhausting than the on-stage mishap itself.

In a lighter moment, Ayumi Hamasaki also recalled being helped immediately after the fall by one of her dancers, describing the quick reaction as straight out of a movie scene. 

The moment highlighted the strong bond and trust within her long-time performance team.

Following her statement, fans flooded social media with supportive messages, praising her professionalism and calm response. 

Many expressed relief at her update, noting that she handled the situation with honesty and warmth rather than brushing it aside.
