From there, he continued working behind the scenes on productions including We Were Soldiers and Seraphim Falls, building a career that was rarely the face of a project but was very much part of making one happen.
Malhotra later became involved with Marvel Studios, contributing to projects including Daredevil and Iron Fist. In 2018, he moved further into producing, working as an associate producer on Cloak & Dagger. It was around this period that his career also became closely connected with Taylor Sheridan’s television universe, eventually leading to producer credits on some of Sheridan’s biggest projects.
His work included Yellowstone, where he progressed to producer, followed by productions such as 1883, 1923, Landman and The Madison. He joined Lioness during its second season in 2024 and went on to work across 15 episodes of the series. That makes the tribute in the Season 3 finale more than a passing name on the credits. According to the information available about his final months, Malhotra became seriously ill in July 2026 but continued concentrating on his production responsibilities. He spent his final days in hospital, where friends, colleagues and family members visited him. On July 28, 2026, he suffered a heart attack and died at Cedars-Sinai Cardiac ICU. His family was with him when he died.
Malhotra is remembered by his partner of 15 years, Catherine Jordan, as well as his 94-year-old father, his brother, his nephew and other loved ones. His career is also reflected through the long list of productions he helped bring together, from post-production work in the 1990s to major television franchises decades later.
There is something particularly fitting, if rather bittersweet, about Lioness ending its season with a tribute to someone who spent so much of his career working behind the scenes.
The show itself is built around people whose jobs often require them to operate away from the spotlight, and Malhotra’s career followed a somewhat similar path. He was not the person audiences necessarily recognised on screen, but his work was woven into productions that became familiar names.
My take is that the tribute works precisely because it arrives after such a messy finale rather than during some artificially sentimental farewell. Lioness spends much of its final episode dealing with consequences, broken trust and unfinished business, so the dedication to Malhotra quietly adds another layer to an already complicated ending. There is no need to turn his death into part of the drama itself. His career speaks loudly enough. From The Journey of August King to Marvel productions and Sheridan’s expanding television universe, he built a remarkably long behind-the-scenes career.
The slightly ironic part is that people who make television possible are often noticed only when their names appear at the end. In Malhotra’s case, that final credit now carries considerably more weight. It is a simple tribute, but after decades of work, perhaps simple is exactly right.
