Zhong Chuxi Called Out Again for ‘Centre Spot’ Drama at the Golden Rooster Awards 2025

Chinese actress Zhong Chuxi has found herself back in the spotlight, and not entirely for the reasons she might have expected. Fresh off her win for Best Supporting Actress at the 38th Golden Rooster Awards 2025, she’s once again caught up in chatter about her stage positioning.

During the winners’ group photo, Zhong Chuxi was seen standing between Best Actress Song Jia and Best Actor Jackson Yee. It didn’t take long for comments to roll in, with some accusing her of trying to stand in the centre spot yet again.

The reaction feels familiar, given the earlier fashion event drama where she was accused of edging between Yang Mi and Liu Yifei in a group photo and allegedly refusing to shift aside.

Did Zhong Chuxi Really Step Into the Centre

But this time, the situation seems far less dramatic than it first appeared.

In many wider shots taken on the night, Zhong Chuxi is clearly positioned in the second row, standing diagonally behind Song Jia with the director of Her Story beside her.

At one moment, she even shifted slightly backwards, as if fully aware that any misstep could spark new commentary.

Still, some online users jokingly claimed she had somehow created a “1.5th row” exclusively for herself.

Other viewers pushed back, noting that several award recipients from Her Story were grouped together, making Zhong Chuxi’s placement both natural and expected.

They also questioned why such scrutiny continues to follow her when the focus should’ve been on her achievement rather than her footing on stage.

And it truly was a big night for her. On 15 November, the official winners’ list for the 38th Golden Rooster Awards confirmed Zhong Chuxi as Best Supporting Actress for her role as Xiao Ye in Her Story

It marked her first nomination and first win, a major turning point in her career.

Backstage, Zhong Chuxi opened up about past doubts and the pressure of criticism.

She admitted she had questioned her abilities many times before landing Her Story, describing the project as a moment that helped her rebuild her confidence.

When asked what she would say to her past self during those low moments, she replied that she used to repeat the same message over and over just to keep going: “Keep going. Everything will pass.”
