Love’s Ambition Hits 31.7% Market Share on Yunhe and Kuyun, Earns S+ Rating |
Chinese actress Zhao Lusi has found herself right back in the spotlight, but this time not because of heavy promotion.
Her new drama Love’s Ambition, co-starring William Chan, quietly dropped without any big marketing push — and yet within four days it smashed through 31,000 heat index, making it the fastest drama of 2025 to reach that number.

In a livestream, Zhao Lusi reflected on the unusual release strategy. Instead of feeling let down, she actually framed it as a win:
“You all are the best channel for promotion. It’s the quality of the drama and everyone’s love for it that spreads the word.”
She added that limited promo saves costs and allows the team to see unfiltered audience feedback.
Lusi also praised the director and cast for their trust and teamwork, saying she felt relieved the show aired smoothly after earlier worries that “previous incidents” might have derailed things.

The actress was candid when asked about her condition. She admitted that while the drama’s success is encouraging, her health comes first:
“This isn’t something that can be hurried. The more anxious and worried I get, the worse it becomes. My illness won’t be cured just because a drama airs.”
She revealed she’s pressing pause on new roles and limiting endorsements.
Despite receiving plenty of scripts off the back of Love’s Ambition’s success, she said she doesn’t want to rush into commitments:
“The more people enjoy my dramas, the more pressure I might feel. So I really need to maintain a balance between confidence and responsibility.”
Not everything about the livestream was Rosy.
#ZhaoLusi calls out Antis leaving hate comments in her livestream

"My mouth looks weird? Everywhere looks weird to you. The one who used to disliked me, more than anyone else, was myself.
It's better now but there was a time when I felt like my eyes, nose, mouth, hair, and… pic.twitter.com/Xqn0NvkMQE
Zhao Lusi calmly read out malicious comments about her looks and personality but responded in an unexpectedly open way:
“You’re right, I am not a good person… Compared to you, I’m the one who dislikes myself the most. I used to hate myself a lot, but now it’s much better.”
When asked about changes in her appearance, she gave a straightforward explanation about weight loss and how it can change facial features, joking that maybe her drama character’s “pretentious” energy was what made her look different on screen.
Later, she joined a group livestream with the Love’s Ambition cast, where her banter with William Chan became a highlight.
On seeing his slimmer frame, she teased him with:
“Are you William Chan? Who are you? Why are you so thin?”
William laughed it off, explaining that his latest filming schedule and hot weather had drained him.
He then turned the spotlight back on Zhao Lusi, praising her acting and telling fans she was a “talented actor” whose future projects were worth looking forward to.
When asked if he’d work with her again, William didn’t hesitate: “Of course — but I’m getting old!”.
