Her legal team stepped in with a formal statement, stressing that these claims were baseless. 

They highlighted that defamatory posts had surfaced across Weibo, Xiaohongshu and Douyin, smearing her with words such as “fleeing abroad” and “drinking companion provider.” 

Lawyers confirmed they’ve already collected evidence against two Weibo users who spread these falsehoods and will be pursuing a civil lawsuit.

It is truly regrettable that someone has passed away. Please respect the deceased and stop spreading false rumours,” the statement read.

Even with her swift denial, Song Yiren hasn’t escaped the fallout. 

Reports now suggest that she has lost a role in a new drama, with production teams and investors worried about potential backlash. 

Some outlets claim male leads were hesitant to work with her, while netizens openly cheered the recasting decision as a “wise move.”

One particularly sharp post read: “Don’t blame others for kicking you while you’re down. You should know your own situation. Can you even carry a drama?” 

Comments under that post echoed similar sentiments, such as: “We wouldn’t have watched anyway” and “This is the result of personal failure.”
