Morton Cheung, the 18-year-old son of Hong Kong power couple Julian “Chilam” Cheung and Anita Yuen, has just given fans a rare peek at his life abroad.

The young Julian Cheung, long shielded from the spotlight by his protective parents, uploaded a few Instagram Stories this week – and yes, one of them was a proper selfie.

From “hidden face” to stepping out

Since he was little, Morton has been dubbed a “celebrity kid to watch.” But unlike other star children whose faces are splashed across tabloids, Morton grew up with his parents carefully controlling what was shared online.

For years, only side profiles or shots with a mask were released, a deliberate effort to keep him out of the relentless glare of the Hong Kong press.

That all seems to be shifting now. Fresh out of Hong Kong International School, Morton Cheung is beginning his overseas studies, and with that has come a more open presence on social media.

His recent posts feel like a soft debut of sorts – showing a confident young man who looks every bit like a blend of his famous mum and dad.

Among the Instagram clips, Morton also shared snippets of him casually jamming with friends in what looks like a band practice.

His mum, Anita Yuen, has joked in the past that while he might not have inherited her acting chops, he’s always been drawn to arranging and composing music.

Judging from the clips, he’s clearly putting that interest into practice during his student life abroad.

Even Chilam Cheung hinted earlier this year that sending Morton overseas was about broadening his horizons, saying, “A son should see the world.”

Neither parent revealed where exactly he would be studying, but the short videos suggest he’s already settling in well.

The selfie itself became the centre of attention – and for good reason. Netizens were quick to point out Morton Cheung’s striking double-lidded eyes, strong brows, and unmistakable star quality.

He’s got both parents’ genes in full force,” one comment read, while another joked that he looks like he could easily outshine his dad in a drama one day. Some even compared his vibe to actor Karl Ting from Come Home Love.

With his curly mid-length hair and natural charisma, Morton looks worlds apart from the shy schoolboy glimpses the public once caught. It’s clear he’s stepping into a new stage of life – and perhaps a more public chapter, too.

As Anita Yuen once said about her son’s future: “What matters most is that he’s happy and finds what he loves. He’s an independent individual now – the rest is his road to walk.”

Judging by his latest posts, Morton Cheung is doing exactly that.
