Chinese actress Zhao Lusi has sent shockwaves through her fanbase by announcing that she will be deleting her Weibo account, which currently boasts over 31 million followers. The actress posted a short but striking message:

"真的助农也要注销的,拜拜"

(Translation: “Even the ‘Support Farmers’ account has to be deleted, bye”)

Her official fan club quickly shared a farewell note, and the announcement shot straight to the top of Weibo’s trending charts. Fans reported site-wide slowdowns and page loading issues due to the sheer volume of activity.

However, Zhao Lusi has confirmed she is still extending brand contracts and continuing her professional commitments, making it clear that this move is strictly about her Weibo account.

The account will be permanently deleted after the mandatory 15-day cooling-off period.

Zhao Lusi herself joked about the waiting period during a livestream, saying, “I’m divorcing you, what’s there to cool off for?” Fans currently number over 31.17 million, making this one of the most impactful social media exits in recent Chinese entertainment.

This isn’t the first time Zhao Lusi has made headlines through her online activities. Recently, her livestreams promoting local agricultural products, from bamboo fungi to kudzu root tea, caused sales to skyrocket. Her ‘Support Farmers’ initiative, however, has faced controversy.

On August 13, netizens noticed Zhao Lusi repeatedly showcasing apple juice and dried apple products from a friend’s company, leading to questions about whether her efforts were genuine or a form of promotion. 

Some critics suggested the initiative involved profit-sharing or price manipulation. Zhao Lusi quickly addressed the claims, insisting she had not received any payment and was simply supporting farmers:

"First, I didn’t take a penny. Second, whether people buy or try the products is entirely their choice. I just found things I liked from the farmers, and helping doesn’t always have to involve money."

Local authorities confirmed that while the apple juice brand received an official ‘Support Farmers Ambassador’ certificate, it was issued to the company, not Rosy herself.

The products in question came from over 600 tonnes of apples from 4,000 farmers in Shaanxi affected by hail damage, which Zhao Lusi's team purchased at market price and processed into juice and dried fruit.

Lusi also explained in her livestream that the orchard is enormous, and her aim was simply to get the products appreciated. 

“I originally wanted to quietly support them. If people enjoy the products, that’s what matters. Now it’s turned into something else,” she said. She clarified that she had not used her name to promote the brand itself.

While the certificate controversy caused a stir, authorities are continuing to investigate the company’s credentials and the livestreaming activities connected to it.
