Zhao Lusi Laughs Off Plastic Surgery Claims, Questions Why Her Drama Still Isn’t Out

Zhao Lusi isn’t here for your speculations — and she’s got the sass to back it up.

The ever-popular Chinese actress made waves online again after joining a Charlotte Tilbury livestream, where she teamed up with beauty influencer Ali Beibei to recreate her signature glam look.

But while the lippie shades and sparkly eyeshadow were front and centre, the real tea came from Rosy herself — who casually addressed both her long-rumoured plastic surgery and the mysterious delay of her upcoming drama Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼).

“Of course you won’t look like me…”

As fans tuned in to watch the session, many clocked that the influencer’s final makeup didn’t exactly scream “Zhao Lusi vibes.” Instead of letting it slide, Zhao Lusi cheekily tackled it head-on:

“It’s really hard to imitate. A lot of people say I had plastic surgery, that my face keeps changing—so of course you won’t look like me,” she quipped with a grin.

With that one line, she reignited the age-old conversation that’s followed her since her breakout roles in Love Like the Galaxy, Hidden Love, and The Story of Pearl Girl. But instead of denying or confirming anything, Lusi clarified that her looks aren’t courtesy of a surgeon’s knife — just a love for change.

“I just really like trying new things—this makeup, that hairdo. I’m the kind of person who enjoys variety,” she added, staying cool and collected.

Still, not everyone was buying it. Some netizens felt her tone hinted at something more, while others called her out for being “too defensive.” But her fans weren’t having any of that, praising her for keeping it real and not taking things too seriously in what was clearly a relaxed, low-pressure setting.

That Drama? “No clue what’s going on.”

Later in the livestream, Zhao Lusi also opened up (briefly, and a bit exasperatedly) about Love’s Ambition, her upcoming modern romance drama co-starring William Chan. The show wrapped filming 10 months ago and already has over 2.5 million fans following the pre-launch page. But for some reason, it’s still stuck in post-production limbo.

“That thing still hasn’t aired. I really don’t know why. I have no idea what’s going on—I’m confused too,” she said bluntly.

Her choice of words—referring to the show as “that thing”—set off another mini firestorm online. Some viewers thought it was a bit dismissive of her own work, while others took it as honest frustration from someone who's also left in the dark.

Why the hold-up?

According to a report from Upmedia, the delay isn’t entirely in Zhao Lusi’s hands. It’s likely linked to China’s seasonal broadcasting regulations. Every year, TV stations and platforms shift their line-ups to prioritise patriotic-themed series in the lead-up to major national holidays. That shuffle means shows like The Princess’s Gambit got fast-tracked, while others—Love’s Ambition included—got benched indefinitely.

And with no official air date in sight, fans are understandably getting restless. The drama has been tipped as one of Zhao Lusi’s most hyped comebacks, especially after her last few series gained massive followings across Asia.
