Why Did Song Zuer Only Show Up From Episode 15 in Created in China?

Song Zuer Finally Shines in “Created in China” After Episode 15 Delay — Fans Furious But Hooked

Chinese actress Song Zuer’s name is buzzing again, but this time not for quite the reason you’d expect. After making waves with The Prisoner of Beauty and The Demon Hunter’s Romance, she popped back onto screens in Created in China, alongside Zhang Xincheng. Thing is — she didn’t actually show her face until episode 15. Yep, you read that right — 15 episodes in.

Naturally, that sparked a bit of a meltdown online. Fans were gutted, some advertisers reportedly pulled their cash, and the drama struggled to gain traction in its early run. Upmedia reckons the huge gap before the female lead showed up was a killer for audience engagement, with loads of viewers switching off before things even got going.

Created in China Ending Recap

But once Song Zuer finally turned up as Cui Bingbing, people couldn’t stop talking. Her character’s chic 90s vibe, all sleek suits and confident attitude, stole the spotlight in seconds. Netizens were gushing, calling her look “beyond expectations” and praising her chemistry with Zhang Xincheng’s character Liu Jun.

Created in China follows Liu Jun, a student coming home from Germany to care for his ill dad and push forward industrial innovation during the booming 90s manufacturing scene. Song Zuer’s Cui Bingbing starts off working at the national bank union before snagging a plum executive offer in Shanghai, chasing her own big ambitions.

The romance between Liu Jun and Cui Bingbing moved at lightning speed after she arrived. Two steamy kissing scenes came pretty much straight away, to the delight of romance drama fans.

Created in China’s Ratings Take a Hit as Song Zuer Arrives Fashionably Late in Episode 15

But then drama struck — Liu Jun proposed marriage but wanted a prenuptial agreement giving him full ownership of his company. Bingbing was moved at first, but pulled herself together and turned him down, wanting to protect her independence.

Their love story kept twisting. In the most recent episode, a totally drunk Liu Jun ended up at Bingbing’s flat, pouring out his feelings before the pair shared a passionate sofa kiss — one viewers called the most romantic moment so far.

Still, the belated entrance of the female lead took its toll. Created in China has struggled to keep pace with rival drama A Dream Within A Dream, starring Liu Yuning and Li Yitong, which has been pulling in stronger numbers.

Fans have been quick to point out that Song Zuer deserved better: “If Song Zuer had appeared earlier, the drama would’ve been so much more engaging,” one said. Another added, “She stole the show the second she showed up.”

So while the ratings might have wobbled, there’s no denying Song Zuer’s star power. Turns out, even if you only turn up from episode 15, you can still leave everyone talking.
