Actress Huang Yi—also known as Crystal/Betty Huang—is facing a familiar parenting crossroad: when your child’s dream doesn’t quite align with reality. The star recently posted a home video that’s now making the rounds online, showing a surprisingly heartfelt chat over dinner with her 12-year-old daughter Duoduo.
In the clip, Duoduo gets straight to the point—she doesn’t enjoy studying and wants to become a K-pop trainee instead. “The atmosphere at school makes me unhappy,” she said. “It feels outdated and fake, like everyone’s just a robot.”
Instead of brushing it off, Huang Yi engaged with her seriously, asking why she felt that way and what exactly her dream entailed. Duoduo, it turns out, has done her homework—just not the kind her school probably wants her doing.

“I want to go to Korea. I want to shine on stage,” she said confidently. “I already researched everything. Two million people applied to SM, and only 75 got in. I still want to try.”
Trying to keep things real, Huang Yi brought up Han Geng, the Chinese ex-member of Super Junior, as an example of the K-pop grind.
“(Han Geng) danced so hard his ribs cracked and he didn’t even notice until it had healed,” she told her daughter, hoping to give her a peek into how brutal the industry can be.

But Duoduo didn’t flinch. When asked if she could handle hate comments or public scrutiny, she replied without hesitation: “I don’t care what others think. If I’m not good enough, I’ll improve. I’ll become stronger.”
While netizens admired the little one’s clarity and confidence, Huang Yi admitted she’s torn. “As a mum, I really don’t know what’s best,” she shared. “Should I support her dream completely, or should I remind her of how tough reality can be?”
