Elsewhere, the goddess of Zhaoyao Mountain sacrifices herself in a spectacular moment: she pours all her divine essence into the burning hills to save them, letting her white hair burn to ash and her body break apart into golden stardust. “I sacrifice my godhood to grant Zhaoyao Mountain a thousand more springs,” she cries, before crumbling away, leaving only a jade hairpin behind.
And then there’s Xue Ying, the sister of the villain Xue Fu. Trapped between family loyalty and true love, she poisons her own husband on their wedding night, then helps her brother capture Bu Nian.
In the chaos of the final battle, Xue Ying rebels, stabbing Xue Fu and screaming her heartbreak — “The man you forced me to kill was my true love!” Mortally wounded, she runs into the burning goddess temple, reaching for the love she could never have, and dies in the flames.
