One Day in July: Shen Yue & Edward Chen Team Up for Chinese Remake of Extraordinary You (Mango TV) |
Heads up, C-drama watchers — a new fantasy-romance is officially in the works, and this one’s got a twisty meta plot and a fan-favourite cast to boot. One Day in July (《七月的一天》), the Chinese remake of Korean cult hit Extraordinary You, is reportedly gearing up for production with Meteor Garden sweetheart Shen Yue and Taiwanese heartthrob Edward Chen Haosen (Your Name Engraved Herein, The First Frost) in early talks to lead.
The drama is backed by MGTV (Mango TV) and quietly slipped into prep mode this year — but word is, cameras are set to roll in Weihai mid-July for a planned 90-day shoot, so things are moving fast.
🌀 Plot with a twist (and another twist)

Adapted from the original webtoon July Found by Chance (어쩌다 발견한 7월) by Moo Ryoo, the story follows Ah Qi, a seemingly ordinary girl who one day discovers... she’s not real. Turns out, she's just a background character in a romance comic, doomed to be "drawn to death" after nobly donating her heart to the actual heroine — who’s suffering from congenital heart disease. Talk about a bad script.
But Ah Qi’s not having it. Refusing to just disappear, she teams up with No. 13, another background character with a tragic fate. Together, they try to rewrite their destinies by interfering with the comic’s plot. As they push back against the “author’s pen”, something wild starts happening — other characters begin waking up too, shaking off their pre-written roles.
The comic world, obviously, doesn’t love that. And soon, the entire system turns on them, trying to fix what it sees as a glitch in the matrix. It's survival meets romance meets existential crisis, all in 24 episodes.

🍉 Casting Buzz
While not officially confirmed, sources close to production say Shen Yue has been the top pick for Ah Qi — a role that gives her the chance to return to that spunky-yet-vulnerable vibe she nailed in The Comic Bang. Edward Chen, on the other hand, would be stepping into the mysterious No. 13’s shoes — a blend of quiet strength and heart-breaking sorrow, which feels right up his alley.
If finalised, this would mark their first pairing — and fans are already buzzing about the chemistry potential.
