"Just a Bit of Sparkle?" – Teen Actress Huang Yang Tiantian’s Emerald Earrings Stir Up Online Buzz |
Young Chinese actress Huang Yang Tiantian has suddenly found herself in the centre of a social media storm — and it’s all because of a pair of dazzling emerald earrings she wore at her coming-of-age ceremony.
The 17-year-old, known for her childhood roles in Princess Agents (as little Chu Qiao) and Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace, turned heads with a pair of statement emerald earrings that reportedly cost RMB 2.3 million (around £250,000).
While the jewellery did earn her plenty of compliments, it also raised a lot of eyebrows — and not for the reasons you'd expect.
Netizens started questioning how a teenager, whose father was once a civil servant, could afford such luxury.
"Two million for earrings? Unless they’re fake, that's outrageous," one commenter wrote. "If she just loves pretty things, fine. But that price tag? Feels like there’s more to the story."
“They Belong to My Mum” – Tiantian Speaks Up
In response to the sudden online frenzy, Huang Yang Tiantian took to social media to say that the earrings actually belong to her mother.
A follow-up post showed her looking just as elegant, this time with a caption subtly addressing the controversy.
Still, that didn’t quite stop the questions. Soon enough, Netizens began digging into the family's background.
They found that Tiantian’s father once worked as a public official in Ya’an from 2015 to 2017 before stepping away from his role and going into business.
That’s eight years ago, for the record.
A local insider told media outlet Fengmian that "his income today has nothing to do with the local government anymore." They also added that her mother has long worked in the corporate sector, and Tiantian is, in fact, considered a bit of a hometown pride in Ya’an.
From Earrings to Accusations – The Plot Thickens

What started with jewellery soon escalated into more pointed accusations — some online users questioned how the family even had a second child during the era of the one-child policy. Others began to speculate whether the scrutiny was a deliberate attempt to damage Tiantian’s rising reputation.
Fans have pointed out how a young actress celebrating her birthday somehow became the target of invasive online sleuthing, with many feeling the issue has been blown out of proportion.
Jaywalk Media Slammed for “Double Standards”

As the topic began trending on Weibo, Tiantian’s agency, Jaywalk Media (Jiaxing), was accused of quietly wiping the topic from online platforms. Posts mysteriously vanished, and search terms were apparently blocked — a move which didn’t go unnoticed.
Critics slammed Jaywalk for being "lightning-fast now, but sluggish before", comparing it to past controversies involving top star Dilraba Dilmurat, also under the same agency.
Adding more fuel to the fire, Jaywalk artist Zhou Keyu recently dropped a long statement addressing fan dissatisfaction, admitting there were issues in management but claiming career decisions had always been mutual. That statement was read by many as “the company hiding while the artist takes the blame”, and only deepened fans' doubts about how Jaywalk handles its stars.
What's Next for Tiantian?
While Huang Yang Tiantian hasn’t addressed every single rumour, she continues to post normally and seems unbothered. Whether those emerald earrings were real, borrowed, or just a bit too shiny for comfort, one thing’s clear: this young actress is now firmly on the radar — and not just for her acting.
