EYE CANDY’s “Orthodox Cute” Debut Takes Over Shibuya This May

EYE CANDY's Big Solo Debut Is Coming
“The Orthodox Cute & Joyful” Girls of EYE CANDY Ready to Show It All in First One-Man Live (Sanspo)

They call themselves “The Orthodox Cute & Joyful” – and on 11 May, the seven girls of EYE CANDY are taking that tagline to the stage in full force, with their first ever one-man live show at shibuya THE GAME in Tokyo.

The rising idol group, who officially debuted back in December 2024, are ready to show the world everything they’ve built over the last five months.

“It hasn’t all been sunshine and smiles,” leader Kanon Matsushima (19) admitted in a recent interview, reflecting on their journey so far.

“Standing on the same stage as other groups made us think a lot – what are we doing well, what needs to change. But those struggles actually brought us closer.”

Kanon, who you might know as the runner-up in Seikore 2022 and for her time with the 3rd Gen Sint-Truiden Girls, has taken her leadership seriously.

“We’ve been pushing ourselves non-stop, and this solo live is our chance to let it all out. No holding back.”

Sub-leader Mai Kato (19), who already has idol experience under her belt, nodded along.

“Even though we don’t always agree, we’ve realised we’re all aiming for the same goal. That’s why talking things through made us stronger.”

One of their turning points came at the ENJOY! IDOL FESTIVAL on 30 March.

At Mai’s suggestion, they added fan calls and “aiaote” responses mid-performance – and boom, instant spark.

“The moment we spoke into our mics to guide the crowd, we could feel the whole room come together,” said 17-year-old Kokona Inoue.

“We were completely in sync, it felt amazing.”

Their group catchphrase, “Happy charge straight from the eyes!”, might sound cute, but it’s something they take seriously.

“I always try to meet fans’ eyes during the show,” said 17-year-old Reia Mochizuki.

“I want people to leave thinking, ‘Yeah, that was worth it.’”

And if you're wondering what to look out for on 11 May, Fuuka Haruno (19) gave us a cheeky hint: “Our MC parts! This time it’s just us, so everyone’s planning what they want to say. You’ll get to see our true personalities – finally!”

Eldest member Akari Natsukawa (21) is keeping her eyes on the prize.

“Our goal is to appear on music TV programmes, and have people of all ages know our name,” she said.

And they’re working for it – the girls post daily on TikTok, often using their debut song “Hometemo Iindayo” to keep momentum going.

Youngest member Nana Suzuno (15) shyly added, “I just want to do my best together with the others.”

Her smile says it all – this live show could be the moment that sets their path.

From trial and error to TikTok tactics, EYE CANDY aren’t just here to look cute – they’re aiming for something bigger.

11 May might be their first solo gig, but it’s definitely not the last we’ll hear of them.
