China Media Group Refutes K-Pop Performance Rumours

Reports of K-Pop Concerts in China False
CMG Denies Reports of Inviting K-Pop Idols for China-Korea Concerts

The internet’s been buzzing, especially over in China, after a report from South Korea claimed that K-pop idols might soon hit stages across major Chinese cities.

According to the original buzz, China Media Group (CMG) – yes, the big state broadcaster – was supposedly inviting a bunch of top-tier K-pop boy groups for a massive joint China-Korea concert tour later this year.

We’re talking massive cities here – Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, and Chengdu – each with venues big enough to hold 30,000 fans.

The line-up that had people losing their minds?

Big names like BTS, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, TREASURE, EXO and more. Basically, a K-pop stan’s dream come true.

Some Korean outlets even claimed they’d seen official letters from CMG being sent to partners, asking for these idols to be part of the show.

Naturally, netizens went wild, with speculation flying about a full-on cultural thaw between China and Korea – especially considering China’s been pretty frosty towards the Hallyu wave since 2016.

But before fans could start booking flights or pulling out their old ARMY bombs, CMG’s Asia-Pacific office stepped in and threw a massive bucket of cold water on the rumours.

In a swift and clear statement, CMG flat-out denied everything.

“Not true,” they said. No concert project, no official invites, and no big Korea-China collab in the works.

They made it crystal clear that nothing’s being planned, and no one from Korea is being asked to pack their mics for China anytime soon.

So, for now, it seems the fantasy of a multi-city K-pop mega-tour in China is just that – a fantasy.

And if there’s going to be a real comeback for Korean entertainment in China, it’s not happening this year.

At least, not on CMG’s stage.
