What should’ve been a chilled-out getaway to Spain turned into a travel tale of “what else can go wrong?” for Chinese actor Sun Jian, who’s now found himself at the centre of a holiday nightmare in Barcelona.
On what was literally his first day in the city, Sun found himself targeted by a group of thieves at a local café.

According to CCTV footage he later shared, the culprits tried to snatch his bag not once, but twice.
The second attempt was the one that got him — right while he was distracted on a phone call.

“Someone asked me if the seat next to me was taken,” he wrote. “I said yes. Then they asked if the other side was free. I said yes again and moved my bag to the seat to show it was occupied. I didn’t realise my bag was gone until after I got off the call.”

“来西班牙的第一天,在咖啡厅正在打电话,有人问我旁边座位有人坐吗?我说有,又问另一边有人坐吗?我说有,我拿包就放在座位上,占了下位置,没注意打完电话包没了,护照、手机、耳机、钱包、卡包,全没了,天塌了。” pic.twitter.com/KAgyvQhPsp
Inside the stolen bag? Pretty much everything — his passport, mobile phone, wallet, earphones, and his card holder. The sort of loss that turns a holiday into a bureaucratic mess real quick.
But it didn’t stop there.
Things went from bad to worse as he had to visit not one, not two, but three different police stations before someone would actually file a report.
The first two stations reportedly told him they were “about to clock off”, even though he claims he arrived with half an hour to spare before closing time. It wasn’t until the third station that he finally got to file the complaint — after waiting two more hours.
And just when it looked like the drama might die down, Sun Jian dropped another update a few days later: it happened again.
“We had breakfast at a five-star hotel and two staff members' bags were stolen,” he revealed, clearly frustrated. “It’s outrageous. Is there really no one overseeing this place? The police don’t seem to care either.”

That’s two separate thefts in just three days.
Back in China, the incident has sparked major discussion on social media platforms like Weibo, with netizens expressing sympathy and sharing tips — like checking nearby bins in case the thieves ditched his passport after pocketing the valuables.
Many also pointed out the importance of keeping personal belongings close and within view, especially when abroad.
Despite the bad luck, Sun Jian kept a surprisingly level head. “Life is a constant experience. People are always on the move. We’ll encounter all sorts of things — but as long as we’re safe and healthy, it’s okay.”
He ended his posts with a gentle reminder to all: stay alert when you’re travelling, especially in places where pickpocketing is common. “I’m really glad we live in such a safe country,” he added, nodding to life back home.
