| Riko Sakihama and Riri Nakase Team Up for Idol Debut as RicoRiri |
Nicola magazine — the teen fashion bible of Japan for nearly 30 years — is swapping catwalks for choruses as it dives into the idol world for the first time ever.
On 20 April, it officially announced the birth of its brand-new idol unit: RicoRiri, a sparkly new duo made up of current exclusive models (or “Nicomo”), Riko Sakihama (15) and Riri Nakase (14).
Their debut single, the irresistibly named “Pure pop / Ring☆Ring☆Ring,” is set to drop on 18 June.
While nicola has long been known for launching the careers of beloved actresses like Yui Aragaki, Yu Aoi, and Mei Nagano, this is the mag’s first proper step into the J-pop idol scene — and it’s doing so in style.
Rico and Riri, who are both the same school year and close mates behind the scenes, will bring their modelling know-how, BFF chemistry, and big dreams to the stage.

B-side “Ring☆Ring☆Ring” leans into playful vibes and teen spirit, rounding out a duo that’s here to pop and sparkle in equal measure.
Styling and visuals for the unit have nicola’s DNA all over them — from on-trend outfits to aesthetic flair that’ll make even non-idol fans pause mid-scroll.
It’s like someone bottled youthful excitement, dipped it in glitter, and gave it a mic.
