Lee Seung-gi Cuts Off Relations with Wife Lee Da-in’s Family Amid Scandal

Lee Seung-gi Speaks Out: Severing Ties with In-Laws After Father-in-Law’s Indictment
Lee Seung-gi Says “Enough’s Enough” – Cuts Ties with In-Laws Amid Scandal

It’s official – Lee Seung-gi has finally drawn the line. Today, 29 April, the South Korean star dropped a heartfelt (and honestly, quite heavy) statement announcing that he and his wife, actress Lee Da-in, have cut off ties with her family. Yep – in-laws officially out.

Seung-gi, once fiercely defensive of his wife's controversial background, shared that the couple made the painful decision after a string of unresolved legal issues involving his father-in-law, Lee Hong-heon.

“We’ve been wrestling with this decision for a long time,” he said. “But the trust between families has been damaged beyond repair.”

And it’s not just emotional — it’s legal too.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office recently got the green light to arrest Lee Hong-heon for allegedly violating the Capital Markets Act again

He’s already been under scrutiny for manipulating stock prices with dodgy claims about fake Hong Kong investments back in 2016.

That case went through a wild ride — prison sentence, appeal, acquittal, and now a retrial which ended in a fine.

But this new indictment? It’s opened a whole new can of worms.

Seung-gi didn’t hold back. In his statement (released via Big Planet Made Entertainment), he admitted he’d put trust in his father-in-law, hoping things would settle.

“But now I feel nothing but regret,” he said.

“Illegal actions should be punished, full stop.”

He also offered a sincere apology to the victims who suffered due to the family’s actions, adding, “My careless judgement hurt people — I’m truly sorry.”

This shift is especially striking considering how Seung-gi had once faced fan backlash for marrying into the family in the first place.

At the time, he clapped back at critics, saying Da-in “didn’t choose her parents” and was “the best choice” for him. But time and reality, it seems, have done their work.

Still, amidst the chaos, Seung-gi and Da-in are holding their own as a couple.

They welcomed their first child, a daughter, on 5 February this year.

So while the in-law drama is (hopefully) in the rear-view mirror, they're looking ahead — determined to build a family rooted in values and trust, not scandal.

“From now on,” Seung-gi added, “we’ll live with stronger principles and do our part for a healthier society.”
