| Virtual Idols, Real Books: Akihabara Hosts VTuber-Led Literary Exhibition |
Calling all bookworms and VTuber stans – your Golden Week plans just got a lot more interesting.
This May, Akihabara’s iconic Shosen Book Tower is being transformed into something a little special.
From Saturday 3rd to Sunday 11th May 2025, the 9th floor of the building will host the “Future V Bookstore” (that’s Mirai V Bookstore, if we’re being posh), an ambitious and totally charming VTuber exhibition where over 70 virtual talents will be showcasing their favourite books in classic Japanese POP style.
Organised by the cheekily named Mecha Mecha – a planning and production outfit that runs on the motto “Why not make it even more interesting?” – the event is the second outing of their Mirai V Store series.
This time, they’ve teamed up with Shosen Co., Ltd., and the result is shaping up to be a proper treat.
So what’s the vibe?
Picture this: each VTuber selects a book they personally love or find fascinating. That book is then displayed on-site with a POP card – a handwritten (or in this case, probably digitally drawn) blurb or illustration by the VTuber themselves.
It’s a bit like walking into a Waterstones if Waterstones let holograms write the staff picks. And, of course, some of the books are up for sale, complete with nifty bonus perks like exclusive postcards from the recommending VTuber.
It’s all very Akihabara-meets-Borders, and somehow, it works.
More than 100 books will be featured across the nine-day stretch, covering all sorts – from literature and light novels to manga and maybe even a few obscure picks that’ll make you think, “Wait, they read that?!”
Admission is totally free (love that), though there will be some paid content tucked in for the superfans.
