Zhang Linghe is taking method acting to the next level!
For his latest drama The Best Thing, the actor didn’t just read the script—he actually studied traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for a month to perfect his role as a TCM practitioner.
Speaking to the media, he revealed, “I learned a bit about acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, and pulse diagnosis. But honestly, I’m still too scared to try acupuncture on myself!”
For years, Zhang Linghe has been a staple in period and fantasy dramas, but The Best Thing offers a refreshing change.
“I had been filming costume dramas in Hengdian non-stop. I really wanted to try something modern, and this script felt so healing and unique,” he explained.
But here’s where it gets even more interesting—Zhang’s month of medical training actually worked in real life!
During a variety show recording, actress Jolin Jin jokingly asked him to check her pulse, just to test his new skills.
Zhang, unaware of her personal situation, gave it a go—and was left stunned. “Are you pregnant?” he asked.
Jolin, who had been keeping her pregnancy a secret, couldn’t believe it.
“I was just curious to see if he actually learned anything. I never expected him to figure it out!” she laughed.
Fans are now joking that Zhang Linghe might have a future in medicine if he ever decides to take a break from acting.
With his newfound skills, The Best Thing is bound to feel even more authentic—both on-screen and off!
