Yokohama Kaito’s Pro Boxing Debut Ends in a Draw

Yokohama Kaito, the younger brother of actor Yokohama Ryusei, made his professional boxing debut at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

The 26-year-old faced Ruka Miyazawa (21) in a four-round minimumweight match, which ended in a draw after one judge ruled against him, while the other two scored it even.

Kaito Yokohama, who had no background in martial arts, reflected on his performance, saying, "I thought I won a round with my right hooks, but my opponent’s volume of punches earned him points. I really wanted the win, so I’d give myself 10 out of 10 for effort."

Previously a member of the soccer club in school and the tea ceremony club in high school, Yokohama Kaito only started boxing in his fourth year at Toyo University as a way to stay active.

Now, Kaito juggles his boxing career with a job as an app development engineer.

His gym, Dangan Shinagawa, opened just last February, making Kaito their first professional boxer.

Former WBC women’s flyweight champion Naoko Togashi, who runs the gym, praised his dedication despite limited time for training.
