The idol group CiON, who was referred to prosecutors following an illegal performance near Shinjuku Station in May, has now been confirmed as the group involved in the incident.
Formed in 2017, CiON has since cancelled all of their 2024 live events as well as their much-anticipated major debut with Avex, which was scheduled for December.
The group issued a public apology to fans and authorities.
Reports indicate that CiON’s management team had received multiple warnings about unauthorised public performances, leading police to consider the recent incident deliberate.
Fans expressed disappointment, with many hoping for a resolution that allows CiON to return to the stage.
However, some industry insiders see this as a potential turning point for stricter enforcement of performance regulations in Japan’s bustling entertainment districts, particularly around Shinjuku.
CiON’s future remains uncertain as they face possible legal consequences, and fans await updates on the group’s plans moving forward.
