Reasonable Doubt Season 4 Episode 6 Recap and Review.

Reasonable Doubt Season 4 Episode 6 puts Jax Stewart under mounting pressure as she prepares to defend Eric in court, while her growing dependence on painkillers threatens to derail her career. Between explosive revelations about Eric’s past, a courtroom battle that quickly turns against him and a final twist involving Devonte, the episode delivers plenty of drama. However, the biggest concern is no longer whether Jax can win the case, but whether she can keep herself together long enough to do her job.

The episode opens with news reports covering the latest developments in Eric’s case before shifting to Jax as she prepares for the legal fight ahead. Unfortunately, while she is busy getting ready for court, Melina unknowingly hands someone else valuable information about her history with Eric.

During a conversation at the salon, Melina speaks openly about their past, unaware that her friend is recording everything. The recording eventually reaches Desiree, adding another complication to an already messy situation. Apparently, keeping personal business private is becoming a lost art in Eric’s world.

Eric later visits Jax to complain about Melina and reveal that Brooke has a secret man in her life. Jax offers to have Daniel investigate the mystery relationship, but she also questions whether Eric is hiding anything else from her. Rather than provide a straightforward answer, Eric takes her back to the beginning of their professional relationship. That conversation leads into a series of flashbacks explaining how Jax first became involved with him and why their relationship has always been more complicated than a simple lawyer-client arrangement.

Back then, Jax was an ambitious associate eager to prove that she belonged in the legal world. Eric wanted to secure Allen Russo as an exclusive songwriter for his new company, but Allen refused to sign the proposed deal. For Jax, the situation presented an opportunity to demonstrate her value and prevent Eric from taking his business elsewhere. She eventually discovered that Allen was not just a songwriter but also a singer, giving her an idea that could make the deal considerably more attractive.

Jax persuaded Eric to offer Allen a seven-year recording and songwriting contract. Despite warnings from his own lawyer, Allen accepted the agreement. His lawyer later confronted Jax, accusing her of damaging Allen’s future. Jax defended herself by arguing that she could help Eric become a better man, a claim the lawyer clearly found rather optimistic. He warned her that Eric would eventually ruin her, and the present-day storyline suggests that his prediction deserves serious consideration.

The flashbacks also reveal that Eric and Melina were involved with Brooke, although Eric gradually developed a stronger interest in Brooke. Melina noticed the change, even if she initially tried to ignore it. The arrangement that once appeared manageable began to expose the uneven balance of power between the people involved. Looking back, Jax's decision to work with Eric was about more than professional ambition. She was stepping into a world where personal loyalties, business interests and questionable decisions were already tangled together.

In the present, Jax begins to lose control as she prepares her opening statement. Her nerves get the better of her, and she takes her frustration out on Krystal. She also takes additional pills in an attempt to calm herself down. Before the first day of court, Eric confronts Jax about sending his men to retrieve her medication. He offers to help her, but only if she gets herself together. It is a particularly uncomfortable exchange because Eric is hardly the ideal person to lecture anyone about making responsible choices.

When the trial begins, Regina delivers a polished opening statement, displaying the confidence and composure expected from an experienced attorney. Jax, meanwhile, appears less prepared and seems to improvise her way through the moment. Yet she manages to deliver an impressive performance, proving that her legal instincts remain sharp even when her personal life is becoming increasingly unstable.

Later that evening, Jax's mother visits to celebrate her successful opening statement. She quickly notices that something about her daughter seems wrong. Lewis, however, interprets Jax's behaviour as excitement following a strong day in court. His optimism provides a brief contrast to the growing concern surrounding Jax, although the warning signs are becoming harder to dismiss.

Elsewhere, Mike meets Regina for dinner after the first day of the trial. He encourages her not to let Jax's unpredictable behaviour distract her from the case. Their conversation soon turns flirtatious, and the two return to Regina's home. Things appear to be moving in a promising direction until her mother unexpectedly interrupts. Regina sends Mike away before their evening can go any further. Romance, it seems, is another area of life where the lawyers in this series struggle to find five uninterrupted minutes.

Eric also has unfinished business with Melina. He summons her to his house and warns her to keep quiet about their history. He tells her that she is the only woman he can depend on to save him, turning an appeal for loyalty into another attempt to control the situation.

The conversation ends with them sleeping together. When Jax arrives to speak with Eric and discovers them together, she leaves without getting the answers she came for. Eric's personal life continues to create problems for his legal defence, and his habit of mixing professional desperation with private relationships is hardly helping.

The following morning, Jax's mother approaches Lewis with her concerns. She asks him to count Jax's pills because she suspects her daughter is becoming dependent on her painkillers. Lewis initially resists the suggestion, believing that Jax can manage her own situation. Nevertheless, the conversation leaves him thinking about whether he should investigate further. In the end, he chooses to trust Jax rather than count the medication, a decision that temporarily protects her privacy but does little to address the underlying problem.

When Lewis eventually tells Jax about her mother's suspicions, she reacts angrily. Her mood changes when she learns that he has not counted her pills, and she appears relieved that her secret remains safe for the moment. However, the confrontation has consequences. Jax visits her mother and cuts off their relationship, accusing her of interfering in her life. Her mother argues that Jax is simply angry because someone has recognised what she is trying so hard to hide. It is a painful exchange, particularly because the concern comes from someone who appears to be genuinely worried about her.

As the trial continues, Jax's dependence on painkillers becomes increasingly difficult to conceal. She forgets her bag at the office and rudely orders Krystal to retrieve it. Regina witnesses the interaction and is appalled by Jax's behaviour. She attempts to speak with Krystal afterwards, recognising that the situation has gone beyond ordinary workplace tension. Jax may still be capable of delivering impressive arguments in court, but her treatment of the people around her suggests that something is seriously wrong.

The situation deteriorates further when Corey cross-examines a witness in court. Jax struggles to concentrate and appears distracted by her growing need for medication. As soon as the court takes a break, she grabs her bag from Krystal and rushes into the toilets. Already shaking, she accidentally drops the only two pills she has left into the sink.

What follows is one of the episode's most unsettling moments. Rather than accept that the medication is gone, Jax desperately tries to recover it, even as the pills begin dissolving in the water. She ends up slurping at the dissolving medication in a frantic attempt to get what remains. The scene strips away any remaining illusion that her behaviour is simply the result of a stressful case. Her dependence is now interfering with her judgement, dignity and ability to function, making it increasingly difficult to believe that she can continue without serious consequences.

The episode then shifts attention back to Devonte. Daniel leaves Jax a message explaining that Devonte has been arrested and that the police are preparing to bring him in. The closing scene shows officers apprehending Devonte at a bus station. Faced with the situation, he immediately begs to make a deal.

His arrest introduces another important development just as Jax's personal crisis reaches a critical point. The episode ends without resolving the full implications of either situation, leaving the next chapter to explore how Devonte's cooperation could affect the wider case and whether Jax can regain control before her behaviour damages her position in court.

Reasonable Doubt Season 4 Episode 6 Review

This episode works because it gives the courtroom drama a personal cost. Eric's case provides the central conflict, but Jax's deteriorating condition becomes the storyline that commands the most attention.

Watching a capable attorney struggle to manage her own life is more compelling than another round of lawyers trading accusations, particularly when her decisions begin affecting colleagues who have done little to deserve her anger. The flashbacks also add useful context to Jax and Eric's relationship, showing how professional ambition can become a trap when the person offering opportunities is also creating problems.

Eric remains frustratingly skilled at presenting himself as the victim while expecting everyone else to clean up his mess. Meanwhile, the final arrest gives the episode a useful burst of momentum. The pacing occasionally feels crowded, with several personal conflicts competing for attention, but the performances help hold everything together. Most importantly, Jax's bathroom scene makes her situation impossible to ignore. It is an uncomfortable moment, and deliberately so.

Overall, Reasonable Doubt Season 4 Episode 6 balances legal manoeuvring, complicated relationships and a troubling personal struggle without losing sight of the case at its centre. Jax may have delivered a strong opening statement, but her ability to maintain that performance is becoming increasingly uncertain. Eric's past continues to haunt his defence, Melina has made her position clear, and Devonte's arrest could change the direction of the proceedings.

The next episode will need to address the consequences of these developments while giving Jax's situation the attention it deserves. What did you think of this chapter? Was Jax's courtroom performance enough to convince you that she can still win Eric's case, or has her personal situation become too serious to ignore?
