Shigeru Ishiba, who’s all set to become Japan’s next Prime Minister, isn’t just known for his political expertise. He’s also got quite the quirky side.
It turns out the 67-year-old politician is a massive fan of idols – and not just any idols, but the legendary 1970s group Candies.
Last year, he even attended a concert by former Candies member Ran Itō, showing he’s still very much in tune with his musical favourites from decades ago.
Ishiba’s love for idols doesn’t stop there. Back in 2010, he made an appearance on an entertainment show alongside members of AKB48, one of Japan’s most popular modern idol groups.
While many may have found it surprising to see a politician sharing the stage with idols, those who know Ishiba well weren’t shocked at all.
His appreciation for Japanese pop culture runs deep, and he’s never been shy about it.
Outside of his love for idols, Ishiba also has another interesting hobby – collecting military vehicles and train models.
His fascination with trains is well-known, and it’s said he has an impressive collection of model trains at home.
In fact, some reports suggest that when he’s not busy with politics, you’ll find him tinkering with his collection or talking about military history.
With his quirky mix of interests, Ishiba is sure to bring something unique to his role as Prime Minister.
It’s not every day you hear about a world leader who loves idols and trains, but Ishiba shows that it’s possible to have both passion and power.
As he steps into his new position, it’ll be interesting to see how these personal passions influence his time in office.
Who knows? Maybe we’ll even see him showing his support for idols more openly in the future!
Could there be another surprise appearance with AKB48 or even a tribute to Candies? One thing’s for sure – Shigeru Ishiba’s leadership will be anything but boring.
