| Xuan Lu Clears the Air on Viral Photo with Wang Zhuocheng: “Not Holding Hands, Just Hungry!” (Weibo) |
This week, the topic #宣璐汪卓成在一起过吗 (“Did Xuan Lu and Wang Zhuocheng ever date?”) started trending once more on Chinese platforms, dragging an old rumour back into the spotlight. Netizens revived long-standing speculation about a blurry 2019 photo that seemed to show The Untamed co-stars holding hands.
But Xuan Lu wasn’t having it. Taking to her personal socials, the actress released a firm and clear statement, reiterating once and for all: “There was never anything between us.”
“I didn’t expect this to still be trending in 2025. Regarding this false rumour, I’ve clarified it in the past, and this will be my final clarification,” she wrote.
“We’re just friends. Please stop spreading rumours.”

The Photo That Wouldn’t Go Away
The picture in question has been floating around since The Untamed wrapped up in 2019. It showed Xuan Lu and Wang Zhuocheng seemingly close — sparking fan theories that their onscreen sibling bond might’ve turned romantic off-screen.
But as Xuan Lu explained (again), the story behind the photo was far more mundane. In a clarification reported by Jiupai News, she detailed the situation at the time:
“During filming, a lot of the cast stayed at the same hotel. You could access any floor without a key card. There were a lot of sasaeng fans around who followed us to and from work.”
She added:
“That so-called ‘hand-holding photo’ was snapped when we were figuring out dinner plans. I approached Wang Zhuocheng to pat him and ask where we were going to eat. That moment got captured in a way that looked like something else. But both of our staff were present — nothing private or romantic about it.”

A Tale of Two Jiang Siblings
The Untamed, a 2019 fantasy drama based on the novel Mo Dao Zu Shi, became a breakout hit across Asia. Xuan Lu played Jiang Yanli, the gentle and tragic sister of Jiang Cheng, portrayed by Wang Zhuocheng. Their onscreen sibling chemistry and sweet behind-the-scenes moments were adored by fans — perhaps a bit too much.
While CP (couple pairing) culture thrives in fandoms, it seems in this case, fantasy got a little too close to reality for some netizens.
