Where Was Other Mommy Filmed? All Filming Locations Revealed.

Other Mommy was filmed entirely in Ireland, with production centred on Dublin and extending south to Wicklow. The supernatural psychological horror film, directed by Rob Savage and starring Jessica Chastain as Ursula, uses the Irish locations to build the uneasy world surrounding eight-year-old Bela and the strange figure she calls Other Mommy.

Filming reportedly began in late April 2025 under the working title Grandma’s House and wrapped roughly two months later in July. Much of the story takes place inside Ursula’s family home, making the choice of a real residential setting particularly important to the film’s claustrophobic atmosphere.

Dublin, Ireland was the main filming location for Other Mommy and provided much of the film’s visual identity. The Irish capital offers an interesting mixture of older architecture, contemporary buildings and residential streets, giving the production plenty to work with without making the setting feel overly polished.

Several outdoor and establishing sequences were filmed around the city, while a real property in a residential neighbourhood was used for scenes representing Ursula’s home. Considering how much of the story revolves around what is happening inside that house, finding a believable family property was rather more important than simply picking somewhere that looked spooky.

Dublin’s recognisable cityscape also features in the film’s wider visual backdrop. The Samuel Beckett Bridge, Convention Centre Dublin, Custom House, Trinity College, Dublin Castle and O’Connell Bridge are among the notable landmarks associated with the city footage described for the production. That gives Other Mommy a useful contrast: one moment the story is locked inside a seemingly ordinary family home, and the next the wider Dublin environment reminds viewers that this unsettling situation exists in a very real city.

The production also used Wicklow, Ireland, travelling south of Dublin for additional sequences. The county town provided a quieter setting away from the capital, with its streets and residential areas adapted for scenes involving the increasingly threatening presence that enters Bela’s life.

Wicklow has a very different rhythm from Dublin, and that change works neatly for a story that moves between the familiar and the unsettling. A quiet street can be perfectly harmless in daylight, after all, which is precisely what makes turning it into a horror setting so effective.

Wicklow has also hosted a substantial amount of screen production over the years, with titles including The Hole in the Ground, The Turning, The Other Lamb, Wednesday, Penny Dreadful, The Tourist and Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale among the productions associated with the area. For Other Mommy, the location offered another side of Ireland that could support the film’s darker domestic setting without making everything look like an obvious horror set.

The choice of Dublin and Wicklow makes sense for Other Mommy because the film does not need grand fantasy landscapes to create its tension. Its central nightmare begins in a family environment that should feel safe, with a child gradually becoming attached to something that looks familiar but clearly is not. Dublin supplies the larger urban setting, while Wicklow gives the production quieter streets and surroundings that can feel more isolated without abandoning the story’s grounded approach.

There is also an interesting production detail behind the film. Josh Malerman, whose 2024 novel Incidents Around the House inspired the adaptation, visited the Dublin set and described seeing the story being brought to life as an extraordinary experience. His involvement adds a nice connection between the original book and the finished film, particularly given how heavily the story depends on the atmosphere of the family home and the relationship between Bela and the mysterious entity.

My take is that the Dublin and Wicklow filming locations are a strong match for Other Mommy because neither needs to scream horror at the audience. That is probably the best part of the choice. Dublin gives the film a recognisable sense of place, while Wicklow can make ordinary streets feel strangely removed from the world outside.

The real residential property used for Ursula’s home is especially fitting because the story works best when the house looks completely normal rather than like a haunted attraction assembled for the occasion.

There is something wonderfully inconvenient about the idea of a supernatural nightmare turning up in an otherwise ordinary family home. No gothic mansion, no abandoned castle, just the sort of place where someone might reasonably complain about the heating bill. That grounded approach should make the darker elements feel more immediate.

So, if you are interested in visiting the Other Mommy filming locations in Ireland, Dublin is the obvious starting point before heading towards Wicklow and exploring the settings associated with the production. The two locations offer very different experiences, from Dublin’s busy city streets and landmarks to Wicklow’s quieter atmosphere.
