| Blue Box Season 3 Renewal: What Could Happen Next After Season 2? |
Blue Box has finished its second season, and that leaves one obvious question hanging over Eimei Academy: will the romance-sports anime return for Season 3? There is no official renewal at the time of writing, but the end of Season 2 leaves plenty of story material for another run. With Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu Kano now established as a couple, the series has also reached the point where a potential third season could move beyond the will-they-won’t-they tension and concentrate on what happens once the relationship is no longer a secret.
The biggest change Season 3 would bring is the relationship itself. Taiki and Chinatsu have spent much of the story juggling their feelings, school life and increasingly demanding sporting ambitions, while their unusual living arrangement added another layer of awkwardness.
With the pair now together, the anime could explore a rather different problem: how do two ambitious athletes manage a relationship when both are chasing their own national-level goals? Romance does not magically make badminton qualifiers or basketball tournaments easier, unfortunately.
The sporting side would remain just as important. Taiki's next major challenge would be the Inter-High badminton qualifiers, where his progress would be tested against increasingly difficult opponents.
One of the biggest potential highlights would be another meeting with Shuji Yusa, whose rivalry with Taiki has become one of the strongest competitive threads in the series. A third season could turn that rivalry into a major sporting storyline while continuing Taiki's gradual development from determined school player into a much more accomplished competitor.
Chinatsu would also have her own ambitions to deal with. As one of Eimei Academy's leading basketball players, she has already carried considerable expectations on her shoulders. A potential Season 3 would give the anime room to explore how her relationship with Taiki affects — and potentially supports — her sporting goals. Rather than making the romance the entire story, the series could continue doing what Blue Box does best: placing emotional developments alongside the pressure of competitive sport.
Hina Chono's story could provide another important emotional thread. Her feelings for Taiki have been one of the more painful parts of the series, and Season 3 could finally give that storyline a proper resolution. With Taiki and Chinatsu together, Hina would have to process feelings that cannot simply be wished away. The likely direction would be for her to put more of her energy into rhythmic gymnastics and her own future, allowing the character to grow without keeping her trapped in an endless romantic triangle.
There is also Yumeka Goto, whose history with Chinatsu provides another potential source of drama. Her return has already complicated Chinatsu's emotional world, and another season could explore more of that unresolved history while pushing Chinatsu towards a clearer understanding of what she wants. It would also give the anime another way to keep the story moving without manufacturing unnecessary romantic misunderstandings every five minutes.
The manga gives a potential third season plenty to work with. The original story concluded with Chapter 250 in July 2026, meaning the anime has a defined body of material available for adaptation. If a third season is commissioned, it could therefore move into the later arcs rather than having to invent an entirely new direction. That material would take Taiki and Chinatsu further into their relationship while also bringing the characters closer to the next major stage of their school lives.
Blue Box has not been renewed for Season 3, however, so none of those story possibilities should be treated as confirmed anime plans. The second season has now completed its run, but an official decision on another season remains separate from the availability of manga material. The fact that the source story has reached its conclusion certainly gives the production a clear roadmap, but having enough material and actually producing another season are two very different things.
If Season 3 eventually receives the green light, a release in 2028 would be a reasonable possibility based on the production gap between the first and second seasons. That is only an estimate rather than an announced schedule, though. Anime production timelines can move considerably depending on studio availability, staff commitments and when production officially begins. In other words, there is little point staring at the calendar just yet.
The voice cast would also be expected to continue if the anime returns. Shoya Chiba voices Taiki Inomata, Reina Ueda plays Chinatsu Kano, and Akari Kito voices Hina Chono. A third season would naturally need its central cast back, while the production team could continue adapting Kouji Miura's completed manga story for television.
The production side could also see changes. Season 2 moved the animation work to Electric Circus, following Telecom Animation Film's involvement with the first season, with Daisuke Sako taking over as director. Yuko Kakihara remained responsible for series composition, while Miho Tanino continued as character designer. Any future season could retain some of those key creatives, although a new production cycle could also bring changes behind the scenes.
Blue Box has actually reached a pretty useful point for a Season 3 rather than simply ending because the romance has been resolved. Taiki and Chinatsu becoming an official couple removes one of the show's biggest sources of suspense, but it also opens a more interesting phase of the story. Watching two teenagers attempt to maintain a relationship while competing seriously in sport has far more mileage than dragging out another round of misunderstandings.
Hina's storyline also deserves an ending that feels like character growth rather than another sad reaction shot. And, frankly, Taiki still has plenty of badminton matches to survive before anyone can call his sporting journey complete. The manga's ending gives the anime a clear destination too, which is always handy when a series is considering another season.
For now, though, Blue Box Season 3 remains unconfirmed. The second season has finished, the manga's story is complete, and there is enough material for another adaptation, but the production has not announced that a third season is happening.
If it does return, the focus could shift towards Taiki and Chinatsu's life as an established couple, Taiki's Inter-High ambitions, his rivalry with Yusa, Hina's next chapter and the eventual graduation of the senior students. Would you want Blue Box Season 3 to continue that story, or do you think Season 2 ended at the right moment? Tell us which storyline you most want to see next.
