| Is Tracker Getting Season 5? Renewal Status and Story Explained. |
Tracker Season 4 is finished, but the story has left enough doors open for another season, making Season 5 the obvious question for viewers. CBS has not officially renewed the action drama for a fifth season, so there is no confirmed release date or returning cast beyond what would be expected if the show continues. Still, the direction of Season 4 gives the writers plenty to work with if they decide Colter Shaw has another case, conspiracy and family problem waiting for him.
The latest season has pushed Tracker beyond its usual reward-seeker formula, with Colter dealing with a larger conspiracy connected to his late father and a classified government research programme. That storyline creates an obvious route into Tracker Season 5, particularly if the remaining questions around the Shaw family have not been fully resolved by the end of Season 4.
A fifth season could begin with the consequences of those Season 4 revelations. Colter may find himself dealing with people connected to the government programme while continuing his work tracking missing people and fugitives across the country. The difference is that his next investigation could be far more personal. After all, when your family history involves secret research and government connections, finding another ordinary missing-person case suddenly sounds almost relaxing.
The Shaw family mystery could become the backbone of Season 5. Colter's relationship with his estranged older brother Russell has already given the series another layer beyond its weekly investigations. Russell is tactical, experienced and closely connected to the unresolved questions surrounding their father, so another season could bring the brothers together again as they attempt to understand what really happened and who might still be protecting those secrets.
That would also give Jensen Ackles' Russell Shaw a larger role without taking Colter away from the central premise. The two brothers could continue working together on particularly dangerous cases while still following separate paths when the situation requires it. Their complicated family history gives the writers plenty of material without needing to invent another reason for Colter to become involved in someone else's trouble.
Colter's travelling lifestyle also leaves the door wide open for new locations and cases. Season 4 moves the main production and narrative setting towards Los Angeles, California, with additional desert tracking sequences filmed across New Mexico. A fifth season could take the RV into completely different parts of the United States, allowing the show to introduce fresh environments while maintaining the survivalist and investigative elements that define the series.
The team around Colter could remain just as important. Reenie Greene would continue to provide the legal expertise needed when Colter's investigations become complicated, while Randy could remain his digital connection to information that is difficult to access from the road. Mel Day, meanwhile, has been promoted to a main series regular and could take on a bigger role as the team's legal and personal challenges expand.
At this stage, though, Tracker has not been renewed for Season 5. There is no official announcement confirming that CBS has ordered another season. That means details such as a release date, episode count and final returning cast are not available yet. Any suggestion that production has already been confirmed would be getting ahead of the actual information.
If a fifth season does happen, the most obvious story would be the immediate aftermath of Season 4's revelations about Ashton Shaw and the classified government programme. Colter could continue investigating the people connected to it while taking on completely separate reward cases along the way. That combination would allow the show to keep its familiar structure without leaving the bigger family mystery sitting in the corner gathering dust.
The series could also push Colter and Russell's partnership further. Their relationship has the potential to become one of the main engines of another season, particularly if the people connected to their family's past become a direct threat. Colter would still be the central tracker, but Russell could provide the tactical experience needed when an investigation turns into something considerably more dangerous.
A potential Tracker Season 5 release date has not been confirmed either. If CBS decides to continue the established annual pattern, another season could potentially arrive in 2027, but that remains a possibility rather than an announced schedule. The same applies to the cast. Justin Hartley would naturally be expected to return as Colter Shaw, with Fiona Rene, Chris Lee, Cassady McClincy Zhang and Jensen Ackles also having clear routes back into the story if CBS orders more episodes.
My view is that the biggest opportunity for Season 5 is not simply giving Colter another pile of cases to solve. The show already has that part figured out. The more interesting move would be to connect those cases to the bigger questions surrounding his family without making every suspicious stranger somehow related to the Shaw dynasty.
Colter travelling around the country is still the heart of Tracker, and that should remain intact. But after Season 4, the family conspiracy has enough weight to sit underneath the weekly stories and give the next season a stronger sense of direction. Basically, let the man solve some crimes without making him discover a secret relative in every petrol station.
For now, Tracker Season 5 remains unconfirmed, but Season 4 has provided enough material for a continuation to make sense. The unresolved government programme, the Shaw family's history, Colter's relationship with Russell and his endless supply of new cases all give the series several possible routes forward.
