MobLand Season 2 Episode 4 turns the Harrigans’ family problems into something considerably more dangerous, as Freddie’s campaign against Harry finally becomes a coordinated assault. While Harry struggles to reach Gina and Jan, Maeve quietly starts cooking up her own solution, Conrad’s worsening impulse control becomes harder to ignore, and a seemingly innocent meeting over a car accident brings another threat dangerously close to Jan. By the time the episode reaches its final stretch, several Harrigan allies are under attack at once, leaving Harry with a problem that cannot be solved simply by pointing a gun at someone and hoping for the best.
Harry begins by tracking down Gina with Eddie, although he wisely keeps his distance. He knows his daughter has little interest in hearing from him, and the situation becomes even more awkward when he cannot get through to Jan. His attempt to reconnect with his family is hardly helped by the fact that almost everyone seems to have decided Harry is the human equivalent of a warning label.
Elsewhere, Conrad undergoes a medical examination to determine whether he is still capable of carrying on with his increasingly dangerous lifestyle. The doctor does not find signs of dementia, but he identifies a more immediate concern involving the part of Conrad’s brain responsible for impulse and self-control. In other words, the man who has never been particularly famous for thinking things through now has a medical explanation for why he keeps reaching for violence before conversation.
Conrad reacts in the least reassuring way possible. Rather than accepting the diagnosis or considering treatment, he threatens the doctor and orders him to destroy the report. His behaviour only reinforces the doctor's concerns, with Conrad effectively demonstrating the problem while demanding that nobody write down the evidence.
Meanwhile, Maeve begins laying the groundwork for a much darker plan. She contacts Conrad and suggests that it is time to repair his relationship with Serafina. Conrad is suspicious, but Maeve manages to convince him that she genuinely wants to settle their differences. He arranges dinner with Serafina, who is equally doubtful about Maeve's sudden change of heart.
Maeve's real intentions become clearer when she turns her attention to Conrad's dogs. She tells Paul that the animals look old and frail and suggests they should be put down. Paul knows better than to get caught between Conrad and Maeve, but he is dragged into the situation anyway. A vet is called and confirms that the dogs are perfectly healthy for their age.
That, as it turns out, was the whole point.
Maeve uses the visit to question the vet about poison, eventually steering the conversation towards antifreeze. She appears particularly interested in its qualities as a potential means of killing someone, including its sweetness and relatively inconspicuous taste. It is a remarkably grim conversation to have while discussing dogs, which is presumably why Maeve is having it in the first place.
She then turns her attention to Eddie. Maeve calls him and asks whether he has ended things with Gina. Eddie tries to defend their relationship by explaining how useful Gina is to their business, but Maeve gives him 24 hours to cut ties. She does not bother spelling out what happens if he refuses. Eddie seems bright enough to understand.
Harry eventually reaches Jan and tells her where Gina is and what she has been doing. He wants to bring Gina home, but Jan is not interested. If Gina is happy, she says, that is enough for her. She also reminds Harry that Gina learned much of what she knows from him, suggesting that staying away from her father may actually be healthier for her.
Then Jan's own situation takes an unexpected turn.
After a minor car accident, she meets a man calling himself Jamie, who offers to settle the matter privately with cash rather than involve insurance. He initially offers £5,000, later hands her £7,000 despite their agreement being for less, and begins flirting with her over breakfast.
Jan does not appear particularly interested, but the audience soon learns why the encounter matters. Jamie is actually Donnie, a man connected to Harry's previous dealings and someone with his own reasons for getting close to the Harrigan family. Once again, Jan has unknowingly been pulled into Harry's world simply by meeting someone who appears to be a stranger. At this point, perhaps her safest strategy would be to stop accepting coffee invitations from men with suspiciously generous cash offers.
Jan later meets Gina and tells her about the divorce proceedings involving Harry. Gina is caught off guard but remains determined to insist that she is happy with Eddie and has no plans to return home. When Jan asks whether Eddie treats her well, Gina says she can handle the situation. She repeats that she is happy where she is, at least for now, before leaving in tears when Eddie arrives.
At the same time, Colin Tattersall begins working with Freddie, who appears to be taking the threat against Harry seriously. Their conversation takes an unusually historical detour as Colin discusses the execution of François Ravaillac, the man who assassinated King Henry IV of France. The gruesome punishment becomes a metaphor for what Colin believes must happen to Harry: attack him from multiple directions until the whole operation collapses.
Colin identifies four fronts for the attack. Harry's family comes first, particularly Jan and Gina. Conrad represents another pressure point, while Kevin becomes the third. The fourth target remains unclear, with Eddie and Serafina considered as possibilities. Colin ultimately appears to have something else in mind.
That mystery becomes slightly less mysterious when Harry visits Bella.
Their conversation remains complicated, with Bella suggesting that the two of them could run away together and offering comfort in her own rather unconventional way. Harry instead talks about Gina and Eddie, but Bella admits she has little control over her son. When Harry suggests speaking to Kevin, she points out the complicated history between them and the obvious consequences if Kevin discovered Bella meeting Harry privately.
Harry leaves without solving anything, although he later messages Jan and floats the idea of the two of them disappearing somewhere warm. Given everything happening around them, a tropical escape suddenly sounds less like a romantic fantasy and more like basic workplace safety.
The dinner Maeve arranged with Serafina then takes another turn. Serafina never arrives, because Donnie has warned her to stay away. Maeve notices that Conrad receives a call but deliberately ignores it. Conrad eventually answers a call on the restaurant's landline, unaware that the interruption is part of something much larger.
The attacks begin almost simultaneously.
Men arrive at a bar and shoot Fergus, despite Paul previously considering whether Fergus should be sent home to protect him. At the garage, Zosia is kidnapped. Eddie and Gina's flat is also attacked, but Harry has been watching them closely enough to intervene. He kills the attackers, only to discover that Gina and Eddie have already escaped.
The fourth attack is aimed at Bella.
Frankie arrives at Bella's home with a gun, revealing that he is the person behind the restaurant call to Conrad. With Bella at gunpoint, he tells Conrad “bang” over the phone, leaving the episode on a deliberately nasty cliffhanger.
Whether Bella is actually dead remains unclear. The season's remaining material suggests her story is not finished, creating several possibilities for what happens next. She could have survived, with the gunshot threat intended as a warning, or the attack could become part of a larger attempt to manipulate her and turn her against Harry, much as Serafina has already been pulled into the conflict.
The larger point is that Harry is no longer dealing with isolated threats. Freddie and Colin have moved towards a coordinated strategy designed to attack the people and relationships surrounding him rather than simply confronting Harry directly. Jan is being approached by an enemy under a false identity, Gina remains separated from her family, Eddie is under pressure from Maeve, and Conrad's own behaviour is becoming increasingly unpredictable.
For Kavanagh, meanwhile, the violence creates another problem. Her attention turns towards finding the mole inside her own team, suggesting that the Harrigans are not the only group dealing with betrayal from within. Everyone seems to have someone watching them, which makes the increasingly crowded web of alliances in MobLand Season 2 even harder to untangle.
My take on the episode is that its biggest strength is how it turns the Harrigans' personal problems into weapons. Maeve's poison conversation is darkly funny because she approaches something horrific with the casual confidence of someone discussing a dinner recipe, while Conrad's medical check-up is almost black comedy because he proves the doctor's point immediately afterwards. The four-pronged attack also gives the story real momentum, because Harry cannot simply punch or shoot his way out of every problem when his enemies are targeting the people around him.
Jan's meeting with Donnie is another clever thread, although her decision to accept suspicious amounts of cash from a charming stranger feels like the sort of choice that television characters make shortly before discovering why everyone watching was shouting at the screen. Most importantly, the episode leaves several relationships deliberately unstable, particularly Harry and Jan, Gina and Eddie, and Bella and Kevin. The result is a messy, tense episode where nobody seems entirely safe and almost every conversation could be hiding a second agenda.
The episode ultimately leaves Harry and the Harrigans facing a much broader threat, with attacks hitting multiple parts of their world at once. Bella's fate remains uncertain, Zosia has been taken, Fergus is down, and Gina and Eddie have disappeared before Harry can reach them. Meanwhile, Maeve is still pursuing her own agenda and Donnie has established himself much closer to Jan than she realises.
