Average Joe Season 3 is already becoming a talking point while the Paramount+ series is still in the middle of its second season. With the story expanding beyond Pittsburgh and plenty of questions still hanging over Joe's family history, a third season is certainly possible, although it is far from guaranteed.
The biggest reason the Season 3 conversation has started early is that Average Joe has not exactly behaved like a series interested in keeping things small. Season 2, which premiered on 19 August 2026 with eight episodes, immediately shifted the action from Pittsburgh to Cape Town, South Africa, taking Joe and his friends far outside their comfort zone.
What began as an attempt to understand who was targeting his family quickly turned into an international crisis, complete with new enemies, old secrets and the increasingly obvious problem that Joe is very much not trained for this sort of life.
That makes the latest episodes feel less like a neat conclusion and more like another piece of a much larger story. Joe is still dealing with the consequences of his late father Teddy Washington's hidden past, while the discovery of another family in Africa has opened an entirely new chapter in the Washington family history.
There are also questions surrounding Imani, Joe's newly discovered half-sister, and what Teddy's international life actually involved. In other words, the man who once just wanted to get through life as a plumber now has a family tree that seems to come with its own crime thriller.
There has been no official announcement from Paramount+ confirming Average Joe Season 3 at the time of writing. That is the key point for viewers to keep in mind. The second season has only just begun, meaning the platform still has plenty of time to assess viewing figures, audience engagement and the wider performance of the series before deciding whether another chapter makes financial and creative sense.
Still, there are reasons to believe the door could remain open. The series has already demonstrated that its story can expand beyond its original setting, and creator Robb Cullen has discussed an ambitious direction for the future.

A new country could simply provide the next piece of the puzzle, while forcing Joe to deal with the increasingly uncomfortable reality that his father's legacy is not going away just because Joe would very much like it to.
The supporting cast could also change substantially. A move away from Cape Town would naturally introduce a new group of local characters, potentially including another powerful antagonist and a fresh set of allies.
Hakeem Kae-Kazim's Sipho, for example, is tied closely to the Cape Town storyline, so a future season could shift focus towards an entirely different regional conflict rather than recycling the same group of characters.
Who Could Return for Average Joe Season 3?
There is no confirmed Average Joe Season 3 cast yet because the renewal itself has not happened. However, if Paramount+ brings the series back, the obvious candidates would include Deon Cole as Joe Washington, Malcolm Barrett as Leon Montgomery, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams as Cathy Montgomery, Michael Trucco as Benjamin “Touch” Tuchawuski and Tammy Townsend as Angela Washington.
Their return would make sense because the relationship between these characters remains one of the show's biggest strengths. Joe may be the central figure, but Average Joe works because his friends and family are constantly pulled into his problems.
Leon's attempts to help usually make things more complicated, Cathy brings an unpredictable energy to situations that are already difficult enough, while Angela has to deal with the consequences of Joe's increasingly bizarre life.
Imani, played by Katlego Lebogang, could also become important if the story continues exploring Teddy's past. Her introduction has changed Joe's understanding of his family, so leaving that thread behind would feel rather strange. If the writers decide to continue that part of the story, Imani could have a much larger role in a third season.
Could Season 3 Have a New Setting?
This is arguably the most intriguing possibility. Robb Cullen has indicated that a potential third season would move the story to a completely new international location, with no return to Pittsburgh.
That would allow the show to maintain the globetrotting direction established in Season 2 while giving the creative team another environment in which to throw ordinary characters into completely unreasonable situations.
A European setting could be one possibility, although no specific country has been officially confirmed. The important point is that Average Joe Season 3 would apparently not simply press the reset button and send Joe back home. The series seems increasingly interested in making his escape from ordinary life permanent, at least for now.
That also creates a neat irony at the centre of Joe's character. In Season 1, he was a Pittsburgh plumber caught up in circumstances far beyond his control. By Season 2, he is travelling internationally because of secrets connected to his father.
If Average Joe Season 3 happens, he could be somewhere else entirely, still trying to understand why every attempt to protect his family somehow produces another enormous problem.
