Just days after Overdo exploded onto the drama scene, Zhang Linghe has found himself making headlines again—this time not because of a dramatic plot twist, but thanks to a wonderfully awkward fan moment that left even the usually composed actor blushing. As the historical romance continues to gain momentum, a promotional event in Beijing delivered an unscripted highlight that quickly became one of the most talked-about moments among Chinese drama fans.

The buzz surrounding Overdo (这一秒过火) has only continued to grow since its premiere. Starring Zhang Linghe alongside Wang Churan, the series reportedly surpassed 100 million views within just five days, with audiences praising its emotional storytelling, period setting and increasingly intense relationship between its central characters.

Naturally, expectations were already high when the cast gathered for a promotional event, but few expected Michelle Chen Yanxi to unintentionally steal part of the spotlight. The Taiwanese actress arrived at the event with her elder sister, and it soon became clear there was a very personal reason behind the special appearance.

Rather than simply supporting the drama, Michelle Chen revealed that her sister had been waiting years for the chance to meet Zhang Linghe in person. Sharing the story with a smile, Michelle Chen explained that her sister had repeatedly adjusted her travel plans and even changed flight bookings several times just to make sure she could attend the event.

According to the actress, their mother jokingly wondered if something was wrong after watching her determination.

"My mum said my sister was ill," Michelle Chen laughed. "My sister even said she had a kind of illness that could only be cured by seeing Zhang Linghe."

That unexpected confession instantly sent the audience into laughter, while Zhang Linghe himself could not hide his amusement. Rather than looking embarrassed, the actor leaned into the joke with perfect timing before asking Michelle Chen's sister with a grin, "So... are you cured now?"

The light-hearted reply only made the exchange even more memorable. Moments later, Michelle Chen's sister finally had the chance to say what she had apparently wanted to tell him for years.

Looking directly at the actor, she admitted that she had admired him for a long time.

"Zhang Linghe, I've liked you for many years. You're handsome, you have such wonderful presence, and your acting is amazing. I've been staying up late these past few days watching Overdo."

While many celebrities might respond with a polished speech prepared for public events, Zhang Linghe did something much more relatable. He simply smiled, looked genuinely shy and appeared to search for the right words before quietly apologising.

"I'm really sorry for making you change your schedule so many times," he replied, clearly touched by her effort.

His response immediately earned warm reactions from those attending the event. Michelle Chen's sister quickly reassured him that every schedule change had been worth it, joking that her "illness" had now been completely cured. Safe to say, doctors everywhere probably won't be adding that diagnosis to medical textbooks anytime soon.

The memorable interaction did not end on stage. Later that day, Michelle Chen shared the experience on Weibo, revealing how pleased she was that her sister had finally achieved her dream of meeting her favourite actor.

"Helping my sister successfully meet her idol. It's my first time watching a drama couple's chemistry at a promotional event, and it was so much fun," she wrote.

She also could not resist complimenting Zhang Linghe's portrayal of Murong Qingyi in Overdo, saying he looked every bit the elegant gentleman in historical costume.

Michelle Chen added that she had heard the upcoming episodes would become even more emotionally intense and admitted she was eager to see how the complicated relationships would continue to develop.

The event also generated fresh discussion about Overdo, which continues to build a loyal audience thanks to its layered storytelling. Set during China's Republican era, the drama follows two people connected by a complicated past whose emotions become increasingly difficult to suppress as dangerous situations and unexpected conflicts pull them closer together.

ICYMI: OVERDO Drama vs Novel

The growing popularity of Overdo series has helped push both its emotional storyline and its lead performances into daily online conversations. Many viewers praised Zhang Linghe for responding with humour rather than awkwardness, saying his modest personality made the interaction even more endearing.

They applauded Michelle Chen for happily supporting her sister's long-time admiration instead of teasing her. Some fans even joked that changing flights multiple times for an idol sounded exhausting, while others admitted they would probably have done exactly the same if given the chance.
