The final episode of Blossoms of Power (百花杀) may have wrapped up its main revenge story, but it certainly didn't silence the conversation. Instead, the ending has sparked fresh debate over whether Tencent Video could revisit the historical romance with a second season. While the series delivers an emotional conclusion for Shen Xihe and Xiao Huayong, several lingering possibilities have left viewers convinced that the story still has room to grow. Whether that door actually opens, however, is another matter entirely.
Based on the hit novel Wo Hua Kai Hou Bai Hua Sha, Blossoms of Power became one of this year's biggest Chinese historical dramas thanks to its blend of political intrigue, romance, palace strategy and revenge. Across its 36 episodes, audiences watched Shen Xihe, played by Meng Ziyi, transform from the sole survivor of a family massacre into a calculating princess determined to expose the conspiracy behind her family's destruction.
Alongside her stood He Yu's Crown Prince Xiao Huayong, whose fragile appearance concealed one of the sharpest minds in the imperial court. Although the central storyline reaches a satisfying conclusion, the finale doesn't entirely shut every door. Instead, it feels more like a chapter ending than an absolute farewell.
The future of the empire, the responsibilities awaiting its surviving characters and the possibility of new political conflicts leave enough material that many fans believe another season could naturally continue the narrative rather than forcing it.
Adding fuel to the discussion are comments circulating among viewers after the finale. While nothing has been officially confirmed, one reputed C-drama commentator on Weibo responded to questions about a possible continuation with a simple "Let's wait and see."
It is far from a confirmation, but it was enough to keep speculation alive. Reports have also suggested that members of the wider production team have hinted the story may not necessarily be finished, although those remarks should be treated carefully until an official announcement is made.
As things stand, Blossoms of Power has not been renewed for Season 2. Neither Tencent Video nor the production team has announced another instalment since the drama completed its broadcast. That makes the series officially unrenewed, despite growing interest from fans hoping the story continues.
The biggest obstacle is simply how Chinese historical dramas are usually produced. Unlike many Western or Korean television series, most large-scale costume dramas are designed as complete, self-contained adaptations.
Since Blossoms of Power adapts the full storyline of the original novel, there is no obvious source material waiting to become another season. That alone makes a continuation much less common, even for successful productions.
Even so, the commercial performance gives fans at least a reason to stay optimistic. During its run, Blossoms of Power consistently built momentum on Tencent Video, while its Yunhe market share climbed significantly and discussion across Chinese social media remained strong.
Industry observers have also pointed to its impressive promotional performance and efficient production value, with many describing it as a project that delivered results above expectations. If the drama continues attracting viewers long after its finale, that long-tail success could strengthen the business case for revisiting the franchise.
Much will also depend on Tencent's internal assessment. High viewing figures alone do not automatically guarantee another season. Platforms now pay close attention to subscriber growth, replay value, audience engagement and overall profitability before investing in expensive historical productions.
If Blossoms of Power continues performing well after its finale, the conversation around Season 2 could become more realistic. Cast availability presents another challenge. Meng Ziyi, He Yu and the rest of the principal cast have become increasingly sought-after following the drama's success.
Coordinating schedules for another lengthy historical production would be no easy task. Fans naturally want the original cast back, but securing everyone's return could prove almost as complicated as palace politics itself. At least the palace conspirators never had to deal with filming calendars.
If a second season were somehow approved, the story would likely move beyond revenge and focus on governing an empire. Rather than exposing conspiracies, Shen Xihe and Xiao Huayong would face the far more difficult challenge of protecting the peace they fought so hard to achieve.
Internal political rivalries could continue, while neighbouring kingdoms and border conflicts might emerge as entirely new threats. Their romance would also enter unfamiliar territory as leadership responsibilities place constant pressure on their relationship.
Another possible direction would involve expanding beyond the original novel through newly written material. Writers could explore palace reforms, lingering noble factions still seeking power, succession disputes or entirely original enemies attempting to destabilise the kingdom.
Since the main revenge arc has already reached its conclusion, any continuation would almost certainly require substantial original storytelling rather than simply adapting existing chapters.
Some viewers also believe a second season could revisit unanswered consequences from the first. Even after justice is served, rebuilding trust inside an empire fractured by betrayal would hardly happen overnight. Political victories rarely solve every problem, especially in historical dramas where somebody always seems to have another secret waiting behind an expensive-looking curtain.
If Tencent eventually gives the project another chapter, a realistic release window would probably fall sometime in late 2027 or early 2028.
Historical productions require lengthy script development, elaborate costume preparation, extensive filming, visual effects, post-production and the standard approval process before reaching audiences. Even with an immediate renewal, viewers would likely be waiting at least 18 to 24 months.
Fan reactions have been predictably passionate. Many believe the world-building deserves another season, arguing that the finale feels more like the beginning of a new chapter than the end of the journey.
Others are convinced the chemistry between Meng Ziyi and He Yu is simply too good to leave behind after one series. Some viewers have even joked that if Season 2 never happens, they may have to start negotiating directly with Tencent themselves. Whether those negotiations involve strongly worded comments or endless social media posts is another question.
There are also more cautious voices. Some fans feel Blossoms of Power already delivers a satisfying ending and worry that extending the story could weaken what made the original so memorable.
Others point out that Chinese historical dramas rarely receive direct follow-up seasons and believe audiences should appreciate a complete story rather than expecting every successful series to become a franchise.
For now, Blossoms of Power Season 2 remains only a possibility rather than a certainty. The finale certainly leaves enough narrative space for another chapter, audience enthusiasm remains high and industry interest appears encouraging, but none of that replaces an official renewal. Until Tencent Video or the production team confirms otherwise, every discussion about Season 2 remains speculation.
