| Iris Hsieh Death Investigation: Namewee Cleared of Direct Involvement but Probe Continues |
Malaysian singer-rapper Namewee is set to walk out on police bail on 13 November, after authorities confirmed they found no evidence linking him to the sudden passing of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.
The update, which immediately sent social media buzzing, arrives nearly three weeks after the 31-year-old influencer was discovered lifeless in a bathtub at a luxury hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 22 October.
Friend Voices Frustration: “Shouldn’t It Be Manslaughter?”
While the official findings point to a lack of direct evidence, not everyone is pleased with the decision.
Iris’s close friend, influencer Vivian Hsieh, took to Instagram to share her disbelief. She posted a simple black-background Story, writing:
“There’s no murder, but shouldn’t it at least be considered manslaughter?”

Vivian admitted she was stunned by the outcome, though she emphasised that she respects the Malaysian police and the legal system.
Still, she insists Namewee was present at the scene when the incident happened and hopes he will “provide an honest explanation” someday.
Family Lawyer: Case Is Not Closed
Representing Iris’s family, lawyer Chen Jun Da also stepped in to clarify that Namewee’s release doesn't mark the end of the road.
He stated that although the 42-year-old artist will be released in line with legal procedures, “It does not mean the case has come to an end.”
Background: A Case That Escalated Quickly
Iris Hsieh’s sudden death initially entered the books as a standard sudden-death case.
But as details surfaced — including drugs reportedly found in the room and claims the pair had been involved in intimate activity before she was discovered — public pressure mounted.
On 4 November, Malaysian police reclassified the case as a murder investigation, intensifying scrutiny on Namewee.
The singer voluntarily surrendered himself the next day, firmly denying all allegations.
Attorney-General Confirms Current Position
Late last night, Malaysian Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar said that investigators currently have no evidence tying Namewee to Iris’s death.
As a result, the artist will be released on police bail while authorities continue to review findings and new information.
Even with Namewee’s release, the atmosphere around the case remains tense.
The influencer’s family, her friends, and online viewers are still seeking clarity — and Malaysian authorities are expected to continue their investigation until all angles are properly addressed.
For now, Namewee walks free, but the situation is far from wrapped up.
