Taiwanese actor Xiu Jiekai (Hsiu Chieh-kai) has publicly apologised following reports that he was detained for allegedly dodging mandatory military service.
On 21 October, Xiu Jiekai posted a handwritten apology on social media, expressing remorse and pledging full cooperation with prosecutors during the ongoing investigation.
“I will face the legal process with honesty and humility,” he wrote.
The 41-year-old actor, known for his family-man image and long career in Taiwanese television, admitted to feeling “ashamed” for his past mistakes and for causing distress to his loved ones.
“As a husband and father, I feel deeply guilty and regretful. I’ve disappointed my wife and children, and I can only say sorry,” Xiu Jiekai said.
He also acknowledged the heavy responsibility that comes with being a public figure.
“Every word and action of mine is being watched. I shouldn’t have set a bad example. Military service is a duty for all citizens, and it should be faced with honesty to preserve fairness within the system,” he added.
Towards the end of his statement, Xiu Jiekai thanked fans and the public for their concern, while asking for privacy so that the legal process could proceed smoothly.
“Once again, I sincerely apologise to everyone affected and to all who have supported me,” he concluded.
Xiu Jiekai and Chen Bolin were arrested for evading military service in Taiwan, following Darren Wang Talu, who was found guilty and is now serving his sentence.
While prosecutors have yet to release further details, Xiu Jiekai’s open admission and tone of responsibility have sparked mixed discussions online — with some expressing disappointment, while others praised his willingness to face the issue head-on.
