Zhao Lusi & William Chan Drama "Love's Ambition" Breaks Records with No Promotion |
Tencent really pulled a rabbit out of the hat this week. On Thursday, without much of a drumroll, they dropped Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼) at 10 a.m. sharp—and the numbers went wild.
Within hours, the family-romance drama starring Zhao Lusi and William Chan had clocked a peak popularity index of over 29,000, overtaking The Prisoner of Beauty (折腰), which had held the 2025 crown at 26,721 points.
No fancy promo tour, no teaser countdowns—just an early-morning digital curtain-raiser that’s now gone down as Tencent’s hottest drama premiere of the year.

What made it extra juicy is the backstory.
Several outlets whispered that Tencent consulted a feng shui master to pick the exact launch time, though the company hasn’t confirmed a thing.
Coincidence or not, the effort clearly paid off.
For Zhao Lusi, this milestone feels especially sweet.
The actress went through a tough patch last year during Almost Lover (恋人), when a sudden illness landed her in hospital.

On top of that, tensions with her agency Yinhe Kuyu (Galaxy Cool Entertainment) reportedly left her caught in the middle of a messy conflict, with Love’s Ambition supposedly shelved because of it.
So when the drama suddenly appeared on Tencent’s homepage, even Rosy was blindsided.
Her good mate Wei Xiao spilled the beans by posting a cheeky selfie of the two with the caption: “Nobody told me either.”
That little post fuelled speculation that Zhao Lusi was kept out of the promotion on purpose—perhaps so the agency could blame her if the show underperformed. Instead, the opposite happened: the drama soared.

The first four episodes waste no time setting the stage. Zhao Lusi plays Xu Yan, a humble young woman about to marry Shen Haoming (William Chan), heir to a tycoon’s empire.
Trouble brews quickly when her mother-in-law-to-be, Yu Lan (Wen Zhengrong), starts questioning her family background.
Cue scheming relatives, class tensions, and plenty of side-eye at the dinner table.
But it’s the flashbacks that really hit viewers in the gut.
Xu Yan’s backstory is heartbreaking: battling congenital heart disease, overlooked by her parents in favour of her sister Qiao Lin (Wan Peng), and forced to abandon her education.

One standout scene has a teenage Xu Yan crying in the rain, begging her parents for recognition, only to be slapped by her father.
Zhao Lusi’s performance in that sequence already has netizens hailing her as “raw” and “award-worthy.”

From there, the drama shows Xu Yan cutting ties, changing her surname, and clashing with her spoiled sister—fuel for both emotional weight and high drama. With romance, family betrayal, and social commentary rolled into one, fans are already tipping Love’s Ambition as a serious contender for the year’s most addictive idol drama.
