Chinese streaming giant iQIYI is lining up another heavyweight in the costume drama arena with its brand-new project Immortalis (《碧血蝉》), officially kicking off filming this November.
Based on the completed novel 碧血蝉 (Bi Xue Chan) by author Bu Ming Yan (不明眼), the series is directed by Pan Anzi—who earned praise for Under the Microscope.
This time, Pan is bringing together fantasy martial arts, court intrigue, and a dash of eerie mystery for a 40-episode saga.

After much speculation, the lead roles are now locked in. Chen Zheyuan, fresh off a streak of youth idol dramas, takes the spotlight as male lead Shen Qingshi—an icy court enforcer known as the “Jade-Faced Shura.”
Joining him is rising star Lu Yuxiao, playing Yang Wujian, a fiery elder from the Palace of Immortality with a dangerously charming smile and more secrets than anyone suspects.
Interestingly, Zhou Yiran was originally rumoured to headline the project before the role ultimately went to Chen Zheyuan.
Fans aren’t complaining, though—many are buzzing about the age match and visual pairing between Chen Zheyuan and Lu Yuxiao.
