Chinese fantasy drama The Immortal Ascension (《凡人修仙傳》), starring Yang Yang and Gina Jin Chen, just wrapped its first season, and buzz is already building for what’s next. The finale aired recently and left fans on the edge of their seats — with plenty of hints dropped for a possible Season 2.
The story follows Yang Yang’s character Han Li, a mortal caught in a fierce battle against Wang Chan, the young master of the Ghost Spirit Sect. In the intense final showdown by the teleportation array, Han Li sacrifices much of his power to save Nangong Wan (played by Gina Jin).
Though weakened and outmatched, Han Li narrowly escapes into a mysterious new world known as the "Chaotic Star Sea" by activating the teleportation formation — a heart-stopping cliffhanger moment that sets the stage for the next chapter.

According to reports, Yang Yang has already signed a three-season contract for The Immortal Ascension trilogy, with the green light for Season 2 hinging on the reception of Season 1.
And judging by the hype online, fans are hopeful that the drama will continue without a hitch.
The current season adapts the “Human Realm” part of the original novel, while the story itself is divided into three arcs: the Human Realm, the Immortal Realm, and the Spirit Realm.

The TV series so far has only tackled the first arc, but with the finale explicitly labelling itself “Season 1 End,” many believe the sequel is a sure thing.
Fans are especially excited about the prospect of Han Li reuniting with his “most beautiful white moonlight” — Zhao Qing’s character Mo Caihuan — who is set to reincarnate in the new world as Zi Ling.

This part of the story, known for its emotional depth and breathtaking fantasy scenes, is regarded as the highlight of the novel’s later chapters.
The finale showed Han Li relaxing on a rock by the shore in the new world, taking in the fresh air and gorgeous scenery with a grin, teasing a new beginning.
It’s here that he’ll fully embrace his cultivation path towards becoming an immortal, promising plenty of action, drama, and eye-popping effects.

Speaking of effects, Season 1 reportedly used about NT$800 million just for half the show’s CGI and battle sequences — meaning Season 2 will require an even bigger budget to bring the full spectacle to life.
With ratings doing well so far, the production team is reportedly in talks to lock down filming schedules and confirm the sequel.
For fans who fell hard for Yang Yang’s Han Li and Gina Jin’s Nangong Wan, the wait for Season 2 might not be too long after all — and judging by the epic cliffhanger, it’s going to be well worth it.
