Bosco Wong Says Mum Scares Off His Girlfriends – and He’s Perfectly Fine With It |
Hong Kong actor Bosco Wong has finally spilt the tea on why, at 45, he’s still happily single – and it turns out the main culprit isn’t bad luck or commitment issues, but his own mum.
In a candid chat recently, the Triumph in the Skies star admitted that his mother has been the ultimate “girlfriend filter” throughout his dating life – and not in a subtle way.
“My mum loves chasing my girlfriends away,” Wong confessed. “She does that even when we’re all having a meal together. Nobody can tolerate that as time passes.”
According to Bosco Wong, once his mum decides she’s not a fan of someone, she’s not shy about showing it – even throwing in the odd sharp remark right in front of his partner. Over the years, he’s found himself apologising again and again… until he decided enough was enough.

“Now, I just don’t introduce them to her,” he said with a laugh. “It’s better that way. No marriage… it drives my mother insane!”
While many might see this as a dating disaster, Bosco Wong insists he’s not losing sleep over it. In fact, he openly identifies as a non-believer in marriage and says he’s under zero pressure from society to settle down.
“I’ve had girlfriends before, but my mum’s interference meant some were shown the door pretty quickly,” he admitted. “These days, I take it as it comes – if there’s love, great, if not, I’m not forcing it.”
No Kids, No Ties, No Worries
Bosco Wong also made it clear he’s not interested in the whole marriage-and-kids package.
“I don’t need to get married, I don’t need children. I don’t have to worry about their future – no picking schools, no morning drop-offs. I feel very carefree now,” he said.

The actor described his current lifestyle as wonderfully liberating – work when he wants to, travel whenever the mood strikes, and no strings holding him back.
“If I want to film, I film. If I want to travel, I just buy a ticket and go. It’s that simple,” he said.
Bosco Wong began his TVB career in 1999 behind the scenes before making his acting debut in 2002. He became a household name thanks to hit dramas like Wars of In-Laws and Dicey Business, and his eight-year romance with actress-singer Myolie Wu was once one of Hong Kong’s most talked-about celebrity pairings.
Though he’s been linked to several other famous faces over the years, Bosco Wong admits he’s often struggled to give partners a strong sense of security – something he now sees as part of why the single life works so well for him.
“Right now, I’m living exactly the way I want,” he said. “And that’s something I’m not in a hurry to change.”
