Hong Kong actor Terence Yin Chi-wai and Chinese actress Raquel Xu Dongdong are making headlines this week following a public exchange on social media that revealed a difference in how the couple approaches their relationship in the public eye.

“You won’t go store-hopping with me. You won’t let me post about you on Weibo. You won’t appear in my livestream,” Yin wrote.
“She said it’s because she hopes more girls will like my films and shows… But what I truly want is for you to like both my work and me. Your love and support are all I need.”
In a follow-up post, he expressed concern over how the internet views displays of affection:
“Why is it that expressing love for your partner on Weibo is considered clingy? Is the Internet only for promotions and official content? Where is the sincerity? Where is the purity? It’s becoming meaningless.”

“My content can include him,” she wrote, “but I hope his content includes less of me because I want to save more of my time for personal growth, and I hope he does the same for himself. I’m not some over-the-top romantic heroine. I’m just an efficient, down-to-earth girl next door.”
